My guess is they do this when an admin takes action against posts in the thread to make sure another admin doesn't come behind and accidently punish someone a 2nd time for the same offense.

Could be wrong but just speculating.

That thread got to 16 pages... 16 pages of ADs. Now some of our favorite posters are no more. This site is slowing down with new threads.
It would be better to move threads to off topic area by reason. That would be
OFF TOPIC>politics.
And let people continue.
I Have been on the www longer than most everyone here. CONTROLLING people from self expression doesn't work, long term or short term if severe.
I READ the first half of that thread and found it humorous from all sides. But I don't care what politics a person has, I value most www used for self expression.

This is a rare case on the forum where you can’t talk about a tariff without mentioning the other unmentionable. And in the case of our trucks, it’s a real issue deserving conversation. But then it slips into some sort of antagonistic back and forth and then the ax comes down.

I agree. My lone infraction was a statement that I disagreed was political, but it wasn't worth the argument with the Admins. Politics can destroy a forum so I understand the hard response.

I've actually seen politics destroy a political forum, so yes, very likely.
