What good is a cabin air filter

Near same age and wonder also. But I also drive with a window down for most of the time. The fan motor seems an odd excuse the filters I have changed are after the filter removing the filter lessens the back pressure on the fan. Sensitive noses seem logical mine is not. I started to replace the filter in my F150 and realized it does me no good so I left it out. Let the air flow!

The filter is designed to protect your evaporator from debris which will eventually cause it to rust (and smell). If you don't keep your vehicles more than five years or so it won't make a ton of difference. You'll start to get smells after that and after ~10 or so units will start to corrode and fail, leaking the refrigerant and disabling the a/c.

That is the main purpose.

The “cabin” air filter is filtering fresh air & debris being sucked in through outside vents near the windshield wipers. Unless you have “recirculate” turned on - which tends to get the cabin feeling “stuffy” after a while. Can fog up the windows on a cold day…

Chops is correct. Keeping debris out of the blower motor and A/c Evaporator is the main reason. Cleaner breathing air is a minor reason.

Yes,i know what a cabin air filter is but what good is it?why does air need to be filtered going in cabin.soon as you open the door all the so called dirty air gets right back in!kinda dumb if you ask me.yes,im a 75 year old man ,old fart,what ever!

Before removing it remember that the filter gives mice a place to build their nest or store their corn, etc and not traveling further into the duct work or fan area which would be much harder and expensive to clean up!!!

Yup...... chipmunks too! Seen it on cars at our lake home many of times! The real problem is when they decide to eat thru the filter...
