Not to derail the thread, but once upon a time I had a truck that had the lock, unlock buttons on the armrest. I was only locked out of that truck about 3 times by my dogs... Just about the time I would remember and try to get back it was too late. Once with the truck running. Thankfully I had my phone on me which was a miracle and called for reinforcements with the spare keys. The bad news was it took over an hour and it was winter and the snow just started dumping.... Good times I tell ya. At least with the door lock where it is in the Maverick I don't think the dog will be locking me out! ROFL

I just got caught up on this thread and tried to really listen to each report. It dawned on me that if I am bumping the lock lever (which is inches from the electric lock/unlock buttons), why do I need that lever. maybe I should just disable the paddle unlock so it can't get bumped. I can hear all kinds of objections coming about how that is your mechanical override, but I drove an old Sienna for years that had all the old pull-up/push-down lock buttons, but they really actuated switches. I was never locked out but I kept an old fashioned hide-a-key, if I was. All that said, I did have the experience of working beside the driver's door on something and heard it lock only the drive's door once.

Because some people DO want to lock their keys in the car, even running sometimes.

With non-keyless entry system if the key is in the ignition - pressing the Lock button warns and unlocks all - you can't lock it there. Failsafe against easy accidental action.

So the purposeful action that you do want to leave key in ignition - is the lock lever.
Door closed - Lock button for all doors - open door - press lever - close door.

Sadly a bad combination of settings and design of lever location can make those steps not all required.

With keyless entry if the fob is in the cabin - Lock button does same warn and unlock.
Unless it sees a fob outside the cab.

Sounds like same process if a desired action.

Problem is - setting for unlock all doors when driver opens door may be disabled, making the accidental lever press a much worse outcome.

Much of my life I have been involved in product design. The whole bucket of peculiar issues with a Maverick and locks adds up to a product design diagnosis of "featur-itis". They overplayed the whole subject. Of course, I live in an unusual area with almost no auto thefts. With simpler trucks, I have often left my keys in the glove box. I mean, "really", what if a neighbor needs it and I'm not home?

Never in 50 years of driving have I wanted to lock the keys in the vehicle and especially if it is running. I can not think of any reasonable reason to do so. I know you will say to let it warm up in the winter and no one drive off with it. How likely is that to happen?
That’s the difference between you and a lot of people. 50 years of driving things were different back then ….now people lock their keys in their truck on purpose because they’re either going in the water or going somewhere where they don’t want to lose their keys or get them wet. Also, I’ve locked the keys in my truck with it running with the dogs in there because if I don’t leave it running… the motion sensor will go off if the dogs move without it running. of course I’m not talking about leaving them in there for a long time or on a hot day without the windows cracked. This is just for a second a couple of times in the air conditioning and truck we’re running. that being said, my F250 also got stolen because when they busted the window checking for guns and stuff, I had locked my keys in there, but I could see the truck from outside the restaurant where we were sitting. A bigger truck blocked the view exactly at the same time they came through the parking lot looking to break into trucks. I watched my truck drive away, but retrieved it 45 minutes later using the Ford Pass App. If I had run up to them as it was driving away, they probably would’ve shot at me…. no question.

Not valid reasons. NEVER leave animals or children unattended in a vehicle. Your F250 story? Where in the H E double hockey sticks were you that they would randomly bust windows out? Or did you have a gun rack in the window, stickers signalling there could be guns in it? I specifically asked my insurance company if I am covered for auto theft if I leave the keys in the car and the answer was instantly NO. Going in the water? I go to the beach and leave the keys in the cooler by the chair not in the vehicle. I've had dogs and children in my "50" years of driving and never left them alone in a vehicle. Things WERE different in 1975 when I started driving. I could leave my car unlocked with cash on the front seat and it was safe. But I lived in town of 1200 people and parents beat their kids butts for committing any act of crime. My key stays in my pocket, since I have a Lariat, and did with the 2 previous full size trucks that were key start. If I need to get out to get the mail and leave them running the key stayed in the ignition and the door stayed OPEN. Ford did not design this or any vehicle with the intent to leave the keys in the vehicle and lock the doors but they let you do it if you want.
yeah the F250 story was crazy. I was about 100 feet from my truck sitting outside with my dog and family on a picnic table. A suburban pulled in and blocked the view I had of my truck. . The guys that broke the window on my truck had already done four or five other trucks in the area finding out later from the police report. They didn’t actually break the window out. They just punched the window down with a tool and unlocked the door. It’s still shattered the whole window though, but it was intact because of the tint. once they saw my keys are in there. They thought YES… a bonus!! We’ll just take the whole thing. I don’t have any guns, gun racks, stickers, or anything. It’s just the fact that it’s a four-door truck and I’m in San Antonio… so there’s the answer for that. Yeah it was pretty crazy. broad daylight, pretty brazen. I videotaped my own truck getting stolen and driving away. called the police… jumped on my phone and saw it driving down the highway on my Ford pass app. I had it back in less than an hour because I showed the police officer where the truck stopped. They dispatched an officer I went home, got my spare keys went and got it. Minimal damage. didn’t matter that my keys were in it as far as the insurance was concerned. Since I got the truck back, no issue getting the broken window and broken screen repaired full insurance. May have been more suspicious if it wasn’t recovered. Needless to say I haven’t done that again with my 250 and I can’t since I have an XLT Maverick keys with me all the time. Sidenote I bought the Maverick JUST for this reason while my truck was in the shop so going forward I could take the Maverick to movies, Bass Pro shops or anywhere where the 250s and 350s are getting broken into. It’s so bad here you can’t turn your back for a second. You might as well just leave the truck open so they can open the door lift the console open the glove box and then move on once they’re no gun is found. They don’t care if there’s radar detectors change or anything else. They only want guns…or the whole truck in my case in my case 😂😂

Has anyone who has a 2025 Maverick XLT been locked out? Last week I visited a farmer. When I got out to talk to him, he told me to go to his other shop building. I had closed my driver's door with the engine off, and doors unlocked. When I came to get back in, the driver's door was locked, but not the other 3! When I came to leave, I had unlocked my doors to put stuff in. I had the keys inside. I went back to put more in and found that all the doors were locked! Called my salesman and asked what to do! He didn't know! Then he called back to tell me a phone number where Ford could come and unlock my doors! It would have been great if I had been able to use FordConnect in my FordPass app, but I spent a couple of hours trying to get the authorization to come up on my screen, but to no avail! Still don't have it! Also, I have the park brake come on SOMETIMES when I stop, other times no! I've had to make extra door keys for my billfold and my wife's purse to keep this from happening (the doors)! It seems that the onscreen operator's manual isn't for this Maverick, because I couldn't find the rear window lock by the manual description! It was on the door! Also saving favorites on the radio had poor description! Wrong manual, too? Wow, not even 1000 miles!
I can't lock my Maverick. I thought it was locked because I clicked the lock on the key fob, but found my car wasn't locked. I've tried everything I can think of and my truck will not lock. It makes the lock sounds but doesn't lock. Sometimes the back doors will lock, but opening the front door unlocks the back.
I have been very upset about this. I can't get to Ford until Thursday. I hope they can fix it. I hate to lose everything in my truck or the truck itself.

Think about the days before we had remote locking via keyfob.

This might be a dumb question... but have you tried locking/unlocking it with the KEY itself and not the fob? At least it's a workaround until the electronic issue gets addressed.

When you're about to exit the vehicle, push the manual lock lever (not the electronic button, but the mechanical LEVER) on each door to lock them, including the driver's door. Then close the door(s).

Put the key in the lock on the outside of the door, and turn it to lock it or unlock it.

Or am I missing something?

I don't have an actual key, just the key fob with the unlock and lock symbol.

I have an XL. The fob has a silver button sticking out of it. I press it, and the key flips out of the side of it. An XLT doesn't have that?

XLT…it does. if It doesn’t have the flip out key there’s usually a key inserted into the fob that you can take out. Come on guys…It’s 2026. This in NOT something new with Ford trucks. 🥴🥴🥴

Well - you do actually.

But - did you catch the point about pushing each doors actual lock lever?

Not the lock button - the lever.

Also - you got one big computer there - have you tried turning it off and back on again?
Disconnect the negative battery terminal 3 minutes after shutoff.
Wait a couple minutes, put it back on.

I went to Ford yesterday and found out about the key. Thanks! Also, if the key is on me and I walk to the door it will unlock automatically. If I open the driver's side or passenger door, the back doors will unlock. I'm not sure this is a good idea. I would hate to think that if some creepy person is in the parking lot, they could just open the passenger door when I get to my truck. A lot of my friends are getting new cars, with all the computerization. I guess I need a bumper sticker that says "Old Driver New Truck" LOL!

The unlocking of the doors is selectable using the menu options.
