Well, the Chief Technology Officers of both Mercedes and Aston Martin both came out recently and said this (cost of EV production dropping to be even comparable to ICE) is not happening anytime soon. I tend to respect the opinion of the leading experts in the field, especially when they are saying something that none of us want to hear. I hope they (and I) are wrong.
I wouldn’t put much stock in opinions from executives from Daimler or Aston

Huh? Yes, battery efficiency has increased and price has come down (WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT I SAID), but the price of EVs overall has not (there are several factors). Would you like to look at the price of a base Tesla model 3 5yrs ago and compare it to today? Point me to a single example of an EV going down in price in the last few years (I would love to be wrong).
Price and cost are often conflated, yet they are different things. Tesla cogs on a per unit basis is about 1/3 of what it was 5 years ago.

The F150 Lightning with 300-mile range costs $50K and you can only get that through a fleet order. Otherwise it's over $70K.

Not sure where you're getting this information. The price of lithium has more than quadrupled in the last year alone. The cost of electricity is also rising.

Do you really think a 300-mile EV pickup truck could be had for less than every new Tacoma and Ranger sitting on dealer lots right now? Unlikely. Even $40K seems pretty cheap, $30K is impossible.
I can spec a pro model on the Ford website for under 42k. Don't know what to tell you. Doesn't need to be a fleet order. Obviously that's the most base model. Did I say anything about range in my post? Or price of lithium? Maybe stick to commenting on what was posted, rather than what you imagine.

We're saying the same thing, just talking past each other. You think there will be a $30k EV pickup truck anytime soon?

The fact that there could be has no bearing on whether there will be.

Maybe…. EV fetch a price premium at the moment and that should end. I could see ice becoming more expensive than ev. In the future. But what the hell do I know… I’m an accountant.

And I'm a metabolic health researcher...which is why I lean towards accepting the word of CTOs from the actual companies that are manufacturing EVs and developing new vehicles right now.

Aston is a toy manufacturer and Daimler aint a hell of a lot better. Both companies were completely and utterly flat footed while Tesla ate their lunch. I would ride a bicycle before I would buy a product from either of those companies.

Not seeing your point; Tesla ate everybody's lunch. Interesting conversation, but totally irrelevant to the question of whether a $30km 300-mile range, Ford Maverick EV is in the near future.

Point is... the CTOs of Aston and Daimler are about as authoritative on this subject as an accountant or medical researcher. In fact, given the incompetence of their organizations, perhaps even less so. My best guess is that in terms of vehicles on the market, you will see an ev truck at the entry level and in real dollars, yes that means sub $30k. Ford appears to be sprinting to the head of the pack on this one and they may be first to market. Who do you think will be the first manufacturer to deliver the entry level ev truck?

I know I'm late to the conversation, but as much as I hate the thought of it, I strongly suspect that my XLT will be my last ICE vehicle. But my concern is not so much about EV costs (to me it's pointless guessing at prices until the global supply chain issues have been resolved and you factor in all the new players), but it's more about infrastructure. I don't want to switch until I know there are plenty of places to recharge and that charge connector types have been standardized.

Whether an EV is 30k or 100k, it doesn't matter if you get stuck somewhere with no place to plug the dang thing in. And not everyone has a garage with a 240 volt line trenched out to it for level 2 charging.
