Do you think the van or the longbed should be the next Maverick variant.

We're replacing a Transit Connect Passenger van with the Maverick. I'd buy the van version in a heartbeat with just a few mods - windows on the rear doors.
I grew up on ford car derived vans, Ford made the escort van in every model year they made the escort in the UK. Austin made the Mini Van, the Morris van, and car van were, and still are a major part of the British and European landscape. So yes. Rear door windows, 60/40 doors.. even micro campers .. all seem like a great idea for the Mav. .. thanks for you comments.

Ford has made some amazing vehicles. That escort van was a common conversation to a cosworth engine beast.. really an amazing vehicle, and yes, shag carpet was compulsory.. lol

I'd buy the pickup for sure, I like that even with the roof extension the Panel van version would be under 7' tall. great for garages. Got room for a fold out bed back there. a 40 MPG mini RV sounds great.

I would not be surprised if the NewTransit connect doesn’t follow the lines of this roof, just a slightly shorter wheelbase. (Van)__or maybe two wheelbase options.. . This van would take market share from Mercedes’ metris, Nissan nv200/Chevy city express etc.. so market is proven.. its a perfect post office van.
The pickup has function, but eats into the f150s capabilities just a little more, so I doubt it would see the light of day. The F150 is fords cash cow.. they won’t risk it.

As for a camper.. look at the ford escort Westfalia popup camper of the 70s/80s.. vey functional..

Like the HHR panel van's "AA5" option. It gave you windows on the rear doors and fold down seats, but kept the rear as a panel van.

I loved that thing, had a few PT cruisers at the time, the HHR was prettier and faster, but the rear door was the size of a postage stamp and the PT had removable rear seats, made it cavernous.. yes, a beautiful thing though.

Way, way too small as a US camper, and You'd probably never find one here. Hell my 99 E150 Club wagon is barely big enough to camp in. It looks like it would work for a single person though.

My van can sleep 3, seat 3, have a potta potty and refrigerator freezer in it. It only gets 16mpg on the highway though. Sleep 2 and get 40 mpg would be great for me for road trips.

My HHR panel had 2 seats, and storage bins where the back seats went.

They were small for sure, but still a 4 berth, bear in mind we British build 48 houses on one acre, so small is relative. And when I moved to America my e250 conversion van was palatial by comparison. Literally 2 weeks ago just parked my e350 triton v10 for my new transit 250 high top EXL.. its bigger than my British house I think.. lol. I’m so spoiled.. but don’t expect the transit to last as long as an eco online.. they are fantastic vehicles.

Transit connects never did anything for me. Maybe it was the euro design, or the big forehead that makes them look like something out of a clown movie. I know underneath the Maverick it is much the same, but I prefer the US style of the Maverick much better. I feel the TC should be available as a hybrid too. That would make them more interesting. Ford better step up their battery game!
