Since the Maverick doesn't have a cigarette lighter socket, any electronic accessory, specifically a dash cam, needs to be powered with a USB connection. (I don't have my Maverick yet, so I'm opened to correction). Anyone have a recommendation? I've searched Amazon for hours and the answers to the usb or cigarette lighter are vague. I don't think a dash cam should cost more than $100. Let me know what you think.

The Maverick has a cigarette lighter style 12v connector.

EDIT: Hooking up to the USB power should also work though. There's also kits to wire directly into the fuse block (What I'm doing).

Do you have a link to one of those kits? Looking to hardwire my dash cam.

I'm going to give everyone a huge possibly money saving tip on dash cams. Spend money for a really good dash cam. You buy a dash cam to save yourself in a situation where there's an accident with property loss or personal injury whether to your vehicle and occupants or someone else. When I first bought a dash cam years ago I bought what I thought was a mid range dash cam, I spent almost $100 on it. I went on using it thinking I was protected in the event something happened and then something happened. Someone backed into me and caused damage to my bumper. All good, no problem, I'm protected. Went to pull footage and........static. Nothing, Nada. I was fortunate enough to have had the other party admit to it being their fault but it could have gone much differently, they could have said I hit them, they could have sued me for damage, injury. Afterwards I tossed my $100 dash cam and spent a few hundred dollars on a Blackvue dash cam. I've used it for years with zero issues, zero. Every time I go to pull footage it's there with no issues at all.

Also, I recommend hardwiring your dash cam. Blackvue makes a kit that allows the cam to operate in parking mode and monitor your vehicle while it's parked and will monitor battery voltage and shut off the cam if the battery goes below a certain voltage.

Lastly, there are certain memory cards that are specifically made for dash cams. They are made to have the data on them continually written over. They are a little more expensive but spend the money on one because eventually with a non dash cam memory card the card will go bad after the memory is re-written a certain number of times.

Yes good memory card is key. My memory car starting giving me error messages where it had been rewriting data over and over.

So many to choose from. Thanks for the great advice!

You're welcome, if you think about it this could potentially save you thousands of dollars in court and legal fees in the event someone made a claim against you or damaged your vehicle and denied it. Sure there are cheap models out there but why take a chance?

Size helps here too. Double your memory and you've effectively doubled the amount of data you can write (Assuming the card is of similar quality). Probably a good idea to get whatever the max capacity of your camera is.

Thank you for providing an answer. Not much different than wondering how many teeth a horse has without being able to look in its mouth.

Great advice! You're right. Worth it to spend a bit more when so much more depends on the quality of the camera.
