Can anyone recomend a good USB adapter that will work with Forscan? I have been for the last few years useing a vLinker FS USB to activate Cruse control on my XL. It's worked fine for getting the cruse back on after recalls put the truck back to as built. Now after the last recall Forscan does not recognise my "hardware". Do I need another adapter? I'm useing the same lap top I've always used. I also had to get the upgraded 7.0 version and also a extended Forscan, after I did it would not let me make changes only gave me info on the truck. Any help??

Strange... I don't know what to tell you. I used my vLinker FS about a month ago to activate fog lamps in the BCM with no issues.

My FORScan version is v2.3.70, which appears to be the most current.

You said it doesn't recognize your hardware... Do you get any sort of error? Does the license page (steering wheel icon) show your extended license has been applied?

As the Owner of a 1984 VW Turbo Diesel Jetta, no. But if you can push start it you can have it run on a 9v battery
hooked to the shutoff solenoid.

So it's recognizing the hardware of the OBD reader - or you'd get nothing read from modules.
Got a better error than that exactly?

Doubtful you need new hardware - sounds like last recall changed something on truck side and software can't read something that allows more than viewing to be done.

TBone has 24MY.

I don't see any info on what you got, perhaps 22/23MY?

I'm sure you have a supported adapter, so likely not a timing issue of too slow, so Forscan isn't going to allow write mode.
I'm thinking the software side too - since you did a couple things there besides the recall on the truck side of the equation.

Forscan is a software package that talks specifically to Fords and Mazdas computer systems - only.

In order to connect your laptop with that program (or phone with app) to the truck computers - you have to connect to the OBD port.

That's the hardware device.
Forscan.org lists what they will work with, and what's required depending on what you want to do (depending on phone can be wireless connection for read-only app, or computer wired for write ability).

Would the device work on the VW that old?
See if it has standard OBD2 port (I don't think so).
If yes, then get your own software that can use the device to see the limited things on the VW.
But I'm betting not.
