Hello, all I hope somebody can help me out with this question. I still have a massive collection of CD's that I have put on a thumb drive and listen to in almost every trip I make in my Maverick. I hate that the only USB-A port I use for this is exposed in the truck that I feel if I forget to pull out an put up in the arm console somebody could very easily break a window and grab a free thumb drive. So, to that end is there a way to add an additional USB-A port in the truck that can/does interface with the audio system?

Find a USB adapter cord with a big plug shell on the USB A end. Literally chew the wire off it, about 2" from the shell and fray and splay the wiring. Crack open and remove it's USB connector, crack open a USB drive and install it in the shell... there you go, a nasty looking "broke" USB gizmo that nobody wants.

I have a tough time imagining living in an area where I had to worry about someone breaking a window to steal a thumb drive.

Search Amazon for a thin, stubby, or flat thumb drive. Would be nearly invisible when plugged in. Here is an example. This is a USB-A drive.

Ford Maverick USB-A 1754881329115-no
Ford Maverick USB-A 1754881468607-hx

And you can even cover that with some black electrical tape or duct tape over that area of the dash when plugged in so it's even less visible.

If you want to use your existing thumb drive, consider using a USB extension cable like this.

Ford Maverick USB-A 2025-08-10 22_03_42-Amazon.com_ JUXINICE 2 Pack 90 Degree USB2.0 Extension Cable Flat Short 4

This example looks to be super low profile. Tuck the cable so it allows the drive to be out of view.

Additional note - Others on these forums have said that large collections of music on a thumb drive have quite a delay to start playing due to the Mav needing to index the drive. I have about 10k songs in my collection that I keep on a good-sized SD card in my phone. I'd expect that most Android media player apps should work with Android Auto and play through the Mav's system. I tried at least a dozen Android music player apps before I decided on Player Pro. Works well in the Mav with no delay or indexing time. FWIW.

I have have been using my thumb drive since May and I haven't ran into the truck doing a indexing of the drive if I have made changes to the drive i.e. added songs as it is when I pull it out and put it in my console and get back in and plug it back in I haven't had that index issue which I am happy about.

If you have an iPhone, why not just upload all the songs to your iTunes library and then there's no need for a thumb drive. I'm sure an Android has some equivalent to iTunes.

I used to have songs on an old phone, and I have used USB drives. Now I use YouTube Music and make play lists, then I connect with android auto. These days I usually listen to Audible. Drives my wife crazy when she takes the Mav somewhere and my book starts up. AA connects quite a distance away.

You can change which phone is the "primary".

Mine is primary, hers is primary on the RAV. I don't think I have set her phone up on the Mav, so she gets my stuff until she gets out of range or turns off the audio.
