Has anyone signed up for either of these programs? Could you please give me your feedback positive or negative? My wife and I do not drive a lot. Wife drives a 2018 Honda CR-V with 43K on it. I have company car, so my 23 Maverick purchased 8/23 only has 13K. I am not interested in any "Big Brother" comments. I am an exceptional driver, as work requires to take the Smith Driving class every year and my company car is already monitored with the Geotab GPS monitoring system. I score 100% on a weekly basis.
Thank you,

Been with USAA since 1983. Never heard of this program - they certainly never marketed it to me, but I'll look into it.

My favorite thing about USAA used to be getting a few hundred dollars in annual premiums back each fall in "profit sharing". Now I've reached 40 years with USAA and I love getting a thousand+ back each spring - Senior distribution of my SSA balance. OTOH, they're giving me that money back because they expect me to die soon. Doh!

I get this also, I go back to about '77 with them. My SSA balance is about $5k most of which I'll never see so long as I'm alive and have my insurance with them. I'm AF retired and a military brat, I learned when my father passed, that even my surviving mother did not get the built up funds they had, even though she had to get a different account and policy on her own. They just transferred the account to the new policy. When she passed, it was finally (many, many months later) distributed to her estate.
I have not been marketed these programs either. I think because they already have a driving history on us, they don't see it saving us money and have not offered it. Or maybe, they see it cutting into their profits!? Lol.

Or I wonder if it's a state-by-state program? USAA still has to work with 50 different state insurance commissioners and rules.

Very likely, maybe starting in states with high concentrations of their policy holders (military); like VA, TX, and CA.

Safe Pilot gives you up to 10% enrollment discount with up to 30% discount upon renewal. Safe Pilot Miles saves up to 20% (looks like its for driving under 8K per year). The FAQ page is very informative. There is a 14 day learning period to see how you score. It looks like its available in all states with different details on 3 (Alaska, North Carolina and New York). I am leaning heavily on pulling the trigger. They claim they will not raise your rates based on scoring. It looks like if you can keep your phone out of your hand while moving you should be good, but I am also lead to believe that even taking a hands free call would give you a "ding". I suspect a small one. I see no reason not to try it out.
Cheers,

Correct

You also need to be aware when you are the passenger and using your phone that the trip is marked that you were the passenger. Otherwise you will get an unnecessary reduction. You can change the trip from driver to passenger.

I downloaded the app, but I have yet to use it yet. How do you tell it that you are a passenger? Is it a post trip thing? Are you using it and for how long? I did get the 10% for signing up, but was curious what your discount ended up being as they state that it is "up to 30% off".
Thank you,

I contacted USAA after I purchased my Maverick just for comparison since they send me things in the mail. I was not in the service but 2 brothers were and they said that counts. But I have been with Eire for the last 20 years after a brief switch from Eire to State Farm, what a mistake, and USAA was more expensive than Eire. I asked my agent about these safe driving programs and he said Eire doesn't offer it because they do not insure people with bad driving records.
That's surprising. USAA usually comes in on top for insurance. Customer service is great.

Been a USAA member for 60 plus years. Signed up for the safe pilot program when it first came out and its a good deal as long as you don't use your phone. For us older members USAA can't be beat as the SSA and profit sharing annual dividend almost cuts your insurance cost in half. Not aware of any maximum mile limit but there is a minimum number of annual miles to qualify for the safe pilot program which you will easily meet unless you hardly drive anywhere!

Thank you,
I've had the SafePilot app installed for a couple of years now for both myself and my wife. I just checked and for the current policy period, we saved a little over 20%. We're both retired so maybe don't get a bigger discount because we don't drive as much? As pointed out by others, the app will flag any cell phone usage as an "event". So if my wife is driving and I'm her navigator, the app will still ding me for phone use. However, you can go into the trip history and change any trip from driver to passenger. Sometimes I remember to and others I don't.

I’ve been using it for about a month. It dings you for any phone usage, hands free or otherwise and harsh braking. I had to do a hard brake for a cat that ran out in front of me and got dinged.

Pretty sure occasional harsh braking and or phone handling is okay. I suspect if you consistently do either, it will reduce your discount.

I was offered a similar program through State Farm. I asked my agent if he had it in his car, he said no way! It connects to the ODB port and can see realtime speed, GPS location, acceleration force, deceleration force, air bag deployment, cruise control, automated steering correction and many other parameters. Through the app it can see phone & app use while driving. I have enough Karen's reporting things to the HOA, I don't need that in my car.
