No worries, boys. I'm not COMPLETELY oblivious. 🤪 Yes, I now have another year of the "same payment." But I look at it like this - I bought the first one used with 23K miles. I work an hour away and put a further 26K on it. They paid off that truck and then some and I am starting over with 0 miles and a sparkly new warranty with way more bells and whistles, which is helpful as I spend a LOT of time in the vehicle. Oh, and I just learned that I needed a new $300 12V battery in the old one. I get that I made the dealership's day, too. That heated steering wheel is something I never knew I needed in life...
If I can ask what’s the delta between the 23 and new one. I have a 22 and I don’t think 10k would cover the difference
If I wanted a new one. I would like a 4k tow hybrid.

We rarely need heat where I live but this winter the heated steering wheel and seats have been used quite often! Ford provided me with a new battery for my 22 MY ( free of charge ) even though the old one was working fine!!

bingo! Manipulating a monthly payment is a dealers favorite thing to do.
It's why I never talk payment with them. Only thing that matters is the price of the vehicle, and no upcharges for anything.

Same. I walked out on a couple deals because they wanted to only talk payment.

At a conservative $600/mo, that is $7,200 (the one extra year of payments) to reset the odometer back to 0, all the warranties back to day 1, and have some more features. Seems pretty worth it assuming the vehicle is kept long enough to ride out that initial depreciation curve.

it. I am somewhat cured of it, thanks to a 12 step program
"My name is doc, and I have a Cadillac problem."

chorus: "HI, DOC!"

oh, who am I kidding. I have an old car problem in general.

I had only two requirements on the new house during our search: my lower back insisted on hot tub jets, and I insisted that I have garage storage for at least six classic cars. My wife's only dealbreaker was that the kitchen sink had to have a window to the yard.

We thought I was going to build a 40x50 workshop (so comfortably 12 with stacking lifts), but once we played with diagrams, we realized it would ruin the view of the back yard. So probably 25x40 in a different corner, behind the poolhouse.

[of course, once it's built, I'll be immediately in the market for a v8 60s pony car convertible with a manual, a 50s convertible, and something 1920s: ideally a '26 Cadillac, but they're hard to find, so I'll probably have to get a Model A initially]

I’ve done that if they insist on using a 4 square.
I tell them as I sit that if I see a 4 square, I walk. We're talking price, and price alone. After price is settled, they can try to beat my pre-arranged financing.

One actually did, when I bought the Miata in '06. I told them I'd be back on monday (it was Saturday, and we actually do have a blue law in Nevada: car dealerships can't be open on Sunday!), and they begged to check--and US Bank was something like a tenth a point lower.

But it was too late to do it, so they wanted to play the write paper with mileage clawbacks game. I gave them a hard "no" on that.

"But you have over an 800; you'll get the loan!"

"Then write the paper, but I'm not signing the clawbacks and contingencies."

They grumbled, but they wrote it.

2 year non lux and 50k mile delta going from hybrid to hybrid 4wd with lux. If it was 7k I'd trade mine in a heartbeat.

My First Maverick was $534 with $1,000 down. Sold it to Carvana, and got a $5,300 check back after a year. Put $5,000 down on my 25 AWD 4K Hybrid, and payments are $536. No brainer to step up.

Those numbers are meaningless to determine if you got ripped off or got a deal.

My thoughts exactly. Have to adjust for inflation, know how much longer the payments are, and the total payoff amount of each vehicle at the least.

Well, I sold my 23 with 28K miles for $600 over sticker. Bought a job1 25 for $2,450 under sticker. No upcharges on either. Maybe that helps you.

60 month payment on both, so no longer payments. Made $1,100 on the one I sold, and saved $2,450 on the 25. Same payment and length. But now AWD 4K-tow.
