Undercoating or anti-rust paint a good idea for unpainted surfaces?

Several professional reviewers and some buyers have reported bare metal showing underneath the Mav. My fellow geezers will recall back in the day that dealers were scamming car buyers by charging for under coating. Not being a mechanic, I was wondering if under coating or even some anti rust paint would be a good idea. I have always been a belt and suspenders kind of guy (and I have been known to be caught with my pants down) so what do you all think; is this an issue that needs to be addressed?

My dad always talked about the time he bought a new F100 in the 70s and the first thing he did was pull the wheels off and paint the brake drums which were bare metal and already starting to rust.

You probably won't have rust issues in Arizona, but I'm definitely planning to take some cans of paint and undercoating to any bare metal areas underneath.

Well I spend a lot of time above Elevation 6700; so I'll take your lead on this. Thanks for the reply.

Idk for you as the price went up 6 times this year and was expensive compare to spraying oil or hydraulic fluid. But here in the Northeast it is a something that I like to do. Did the Camry once in 2019 for $170. This time, used the NH#18 Oil, which is more redo after 2 years and perhaps again after 4 years. Time will tell what I do. Perhaps take it in for a sport check after a year and perhaps go 3 years and that's it. Time will tell and everyone is different. Many factors, cost, how long you plan to keep it etc. It was $300 so believe there are way cheaper options being in a dry climate @Raymundo76 . Also noting the guy, who does this says they keep improving the product so the tests back in 2017 are not the same product.

I was going to hit mine with some undercoating because of reported rust but now it looks like I'll get it in February, height of the snow, slush, salt and cold season. Wondering about getting the dealer to do it or finding a local place.

Apparently the popular thing today is spraying what is probably used motor oil under it every year. Jeeps used to have this feature built in, chevy 305s aswell.

I know I've seen other threads on here about undercoating and whatnot, I'd have to do some digging. But I've been thinking about spraying Fluid Film under my truck. The Michigan road departments need to lay back on the salt in the winter LOL.

I used Krown rust protection in Canada. For the first 2 years owning a vehicle. 5 years later took to power wash.... To remove old stuff to put new. Was surprised to see no surface rust at all. Undercoating works great. Just FYI protects against salt on the road as well

Just had my truck done with NHOil this past Tues. The guys doing the work said it was their first Maverick. They loved the truck. They removed all the under panels and coated everything. Inside the engine compartment and inside the doors, hood and tailgate. It was worth the 3 bills to have someone do it properly.
Small yearly cost I think, as living in New England and on the seashore I get a double wammy of salt.
