So, I just signed the papers on a 2024 Lariat EB.

the issue is while I was on the test drive of this particular truck the CEL came on. Dealer said they will take care of any issues prior to me picking it up.

I had to leave the next day for a week long work trip and it’s been starting to make me uneasy that there is already a CEL at 50miles. They said it was for the Turbo Wastegate sensor and that they had replaced. Is this a common issue? Could there be more issues that are related to this? Should I back out of this deal and find another truck?
Just doesn’t feel right trading in a 2020 Tundra with 100k that I haven’t had a single issue with for a car that is already having a problem.

So the CEL is on now. And the dealer is saying they already replaced the sensor based on the test-drive CEL?

I think if we can find out if the dealer actually did any work, it'll inform a lot of what you do as your next move.

But if it makes you feel any better, I don't think that sensor is a common issue.

To me I read it as the check engine light came on while he was on the test drive and they told him that they would fix it before he came and got it. Sounds like they told him that they did replace the sensor and he just wondering if this is a common issue or something to be worried about. That's what I read. Either way you answered his question.

No, you're right I think. Test drive, CEL, Supposed repair, Pick-up, Drive, CEL.

I still want to know if the dealer replaced anything or just cleared the code.

You are correct. Sorry posting this from my phone on a plane right now.

the dealer said they replaced the part and the CEL is gone now.
is there a way I can find out if they just cleared the code and didn’t actually do anything?

Just wait till the recalls show up in your mailbox that have no fix available for them.

Do not sweat it. We have a very sensitive system to catch any issues. That sometimes can cause a check engine light with no real issue. I always clear and see if they come back.
I actually had that same thing happen the first time I pulled a trailer. Twice.
Have driven almost 50k of heavy hauling and normal driving it never happened again. No repair was ever done I just cleared the codes and that was it.
