Tracking Device Found?

I would agree that the dealer is not Repoing cars for Ford Credit. Which is why it is less likely that they would be installing tracking devices for Ford Credit. Especially since the vehicle can already be tracked by Ford. It seems far more likely this is an upsell job. Similar to Nitrogen in the tires or whatever. You don't want the super-duper security system, ok no problem...and they just don't activate the $20 box they installed with two tap-in connectors and double-sided tape.

Yes, when I made my first post in this thread I had missed the post that pointed out that this was an aftermarket system.

Aren’t there tracking devices in all vehicles that have navigation?

we've watched the same TV shows
but if I remember my plot lines correctly the data has to be accessed directly at the vehicle
cell phones on the other hand are just a "subpoena the carrier" away

I believe the factory GPS and WIFI module are behind the back seat. A technician who works on this stuff did a post this past spring showing all the locations of the factory items. If I recall correctly they all have Ford Motor company stamps, even if from third parties. The item in this post appears to be something else, third party.

Seems redundant to me. Must be more to it.

When I was in the finance office writing the check and signing paperwork they tried to sell me a tracker. I said I didn't need it because the Maverick comes with location via FordPass app. Then they claimed the bad guys can easily disable that feature. Nope.

The finance guy told my saleslady to put the tracker back in the sales office after I declined.

They didn't try too hard to sell me on it so I didn't even get the chance to tell them that unplugging and tossing the add on tracker would be even easier to do.

They never installed it. It was sitting on the sales ladies desk so I didn't have to have them remove it.

I never bothered to walk my dealership’s lot when I was picking up my truck. When looking at their website, it appears this tracking system it on all new vehicles. Have not seen if it is a freebie or if it’s an add on. I was not charged nor was I notified that it was on my vehicle. It was simple enough to unplug. I’ll see if there’s any “damage” to tapping into the factory wiring when I have some time.
