My wife is currently camped with a bunch of friends with our Ram 3500, a horse trailer and a small bumper pull camper. She used the 3500 to tow the camper out, then shuttled home and collected the horse trailer and returned.

I'm getting ready to do the same in reverse. I could avoid a return trip if I use the Maverick to tow the trailer.

I have a 2.0 Eco but not the tow package. I have a hitch and regularly our utility trailers and small boat.

The trailer is 3250 and has no additional gear in it for the trip home. No sway bars, straight bumper pull.

The route is almost allcountry roads, some up and down but nothing major. 30 miles, with speed limits between 35-50.

Would you do it? Or simply and safely enjoy a day experiencing both extremes of the U.S. consumet truck market?
I would do it! If worried about braking lower max speed to 42 or ?

Thanks to those who weighed in so far. As happens, plans changed and the Maverick was not needed today.

I did average 27 mpg on a beautiful drive while daydreaming about getting a larger intercooler. So, win.

It's a question of liability. You knowingly towing over the limit means you don't care about the repercussions that can happen to other people on the road. Anyone towing over the limit their vehicle is rated for is playing with fire and I don't want to share a road with you.

Well I guess everyone has their opinion on here:ROFLMAO:. Pretty much the same opinion everyone has had on here every time these questions have come up.

Personally i wouldnt think twice about it. For short easy trips, I go by what the chassis is capable of plus maybe 20%. I will mention though that I am a better driver than anyone else. If It moves, I will drive it across the country with without a worry.

Let me put it another way. If there were no vehicles around and that trailer needed to be moved around a parking lot or solid yard on flat land. I would just move it by hand. That is if I were 10 years younger lol. If a Maverick with a tow hitch isnt many times stronger than me in 2014 than what are we even doing here?

Sends like you're pushing your luck; and if it causes a problem with transmission, then you're stuck with it~~~wise to be cautious rather than regrets

I would.

Dozens of examples state the truck will do this fine.

At 35mph or LESS, you probably wouldn't have issues if you towed one time. But any speeds higher and repeatedly could overheat the truck, and/or push your luck as far as emergency braking.

If you are driving backroads and keep the speed down, I would not hesitate to pull the trailer with your Maverick. I have pulled over the recommended weight with my Maverick Tremor and have had zero issues. I drive easy. Take your time and you will be fine.

Not clear if you want to tow the camper or the horse trailer. Big difference as the camper is a static load while the horse trailer is a live load. I never pulled horses with anything less than an F-250 with full towing set up (preferably a goose neck). Even then, a restless horse can send you toward the side of the road, especially with a tag along.

These towing issues remind me of Mahem All-State commercials where the trailer breaks free. Insurance commercials are the funniest on TV

Personally I would not.thats 1200 lbs over the limit.if it was a couple hundred pounds over and 20 miles or so I would.
