I searched, honestly I did, but 25 pages was too much for me to plow through.

I just put my first small scratch on my oxford white maverick tailgate today backing into a hidden object. Scratch is maybe 1.5 inches and not real deep but it still hacks me off. I have some touch up paint on order for later tdoay. My question: any tips or tricks i should observe to get a nice finished application?

assuming it is very narrow you can sometimes just light use some rubbing compound and only you will ever know it was ever there. Applying paint to a very small and minor scratch usually ends up making it more obvious than before you touched it, you might do better to put a touch of it on a q-tip, and just go over it a couple times and see if that blends the paint in. It's also good to work with a magnifying glass so you can see exactly where you are applying it if you're using a very narrow artist brush. Doing a fix is like the old doctor's oath 'first, do no harm'.

I used a product called Scratches Happen. Simple to use. Matching colors and clear coat come together.

I have had good results using Langka paints. However, some metallics dont look good touched up with any using a brush. Just cant seem to get the finished application to blend well.

Been looking for a decent cheap airbrush for my metallic painted vehicles.

Tip: dont use the included paint brush with touchup paints.... get some of these (below). Have found they work extremely better in applying the correct amount of paint a little at a time (without the blob effect):

thanks to all for the help. I secured the proper color from my dealer................... and immedlately ignored all of the info here and used the applicator brush. The color match is fine, but now I have to sand and buff down. Suggestions/tips for that task? I will go to auto store and get some 2000/ 3000 grit paper.

Add thin multiple coats. Don't go heavy all at once.
