Quick update-

Yes, i ignored the help suggestions here and Yes, I am impatient by nature.

With that being said, (and to save me a 25 mile round trip to the auto parts store as a last resort to buy some 2000 grip finishing paper) , i used that abrasive tip on the end of the ford color match tube to remove the heavy paint . This time, i was patient, deliberate, and took my time. And you know what? It did an excellent job! Again, worklight on spot, slow and small strokes, and continuous wiping of area to remove residue. I got down to where the paint simply filled the scratch and no more. I will apply top coat today and call it good.

To future members seeking scratch repair advice: do not make the mistake I did. Take advice here, do not use applicator brush, and be very patient. It can be satisfactorly repaired

I got the oem ford color "Paint Scratch repair pen Touch Up" from my dealer. It's got the paint on one end with a small fingernail polish brush and the clear laquer overcoat on the other end along with a small abrasive tip (about the thickness of a kitchen match.) I originally applied the paint with the brush against the advice here and, of course, it globbed up. With the abrasive tip, I gently , slowly, and PATIENTLY started rubbing out the high spots and voila! Success!

The color code is on the vehicle info sticker inside on the drivers door frame if you need to order. $25 for the tube seems a bit spendy, but, it made the truck look good again, so no complaints.
