Torque Vector RDU Fluid Change

Torque Vectoring RDU fluid change today. 14 months & 2,200 miles on the this first change of fluid…

Up on the ramps

Pic 2:
Same bolts for fill & drain. Attach directly to a 3/8 socket wrench.

Pic 3:
Fluid a bit dirty as expected. Lots of Crud on bolt magnet & was dome shaped - indicating no more crud was being attracted to magnet? Took many wipes to clean crud - but I replaced with a new plug anyway.

Pic 4:
Clean fluid in the pump ready to go in.

About 26-28 ounces came out & 31.5 ounces back in. A trace of the 32 ounce bottle ended up on cheek/lips/glasses. Wear safety glasses if you’re going to be underneath truck like I was

Fluid did not overflow from fill hole when I finished filling. I could feel the fluid just below the hole however. Stated capacity is 1.1 quarts for this RDU btw.

My next fluid drain & fill in 2 years. I drive 80% Sport / 20% Lobo modes. My RDU is always spinning!

One quart was enough for my last Tremor 24. I believe same RDU as your Lobo. Haven’t done the 26 Tremor yet I wonder if something changed.

I asked my ford dealer last time i was there to check mine and they said they had to drop the exhaust to get to the bolt, is that true?

Do you have the Tremor or the Lobo? I have the Lobo - the fill plug is a pain to loosen & tighten due to lack of enough clearance to ratchet your wrench…

See pic#2 in my OP. The plug connects direct to the 3/8 socket wrench. Not too hard to get the tool into/onto the bolt - but very little clearance to ratchet the tool. I was struggling even to move one click at a time. 50+ clicks was tiresome.

The socket wrench bumped the RDU on one side & the exhaust pipe on the other. I have an aftermarket exhaust & I did loosen a clamp to push the exhaust pipe a little further away. Was able to get 2 clicks at a time instead of just one…

I do remember thinking that the OEM exhaust probably was designed to give more clearance…apparently not!

Anyway, the OEM exhaust is all one piece - from catalytic converter to the tailpipe. “Dropping it” means popping it out of a couple of the hangers. Not a big deal - maybe 5 minutes tops. Would make it easier to loosen/tighten the plug for sure. But the service advisor was being a bit dramatic on the labor involved!

edit…circled in red where the fill hole is. It is near the top of the RDU - you have to get your tool up there to access. There is not a lot of room to ratchet your tool without hitting a bump on the RDU & the exhaust pipe.
