Tonneau cover with ruber bed mat

Hello everyone
I'm putting a tonneau cover on my Maverick which I expect not to be completely water tight. I'm also just going to do a rubber mat in bed. My question is should I worry about the mat not allowing bed to dry below it? I'm probably overthinking this but thought I'd ask here.

Do you also have a bedliner, or will this rubber mat be on the painted metal bed? If your tonneau cover provides decent moisture sealing, the little bit that gets in probably won't be a big deal, even if it's on the metal bed. I have a generic rolling tonneau cover that seals pretty decently. The only times I've gotten anything significant in the bed is with a touch-free carwash that uses high pressure spraying water. Don't recall getting any significant moisture in the bed. But I have the factory spray-in liner underneath my rubber bed mat, so not really concerned if a bit of moisture gets underneath my bed mat.

Worst case if you do get moisture, just open up the tonneau cover for a few hours and it should dry out just fine.

I have absolutely no reason to post. Only posting because the avatar on the proceeding post looks some like mine. Also, the previous poster is from Iowa which is where I bought my Mav and where I was born and raised. Just a lot of coincidences for me to pass up.

I doubt leakage with any properly installed cover will be more than minimal and not enough to worry about..................

I’ve got a tonneau cover and a bed rug. The cover leaks a little and I’ve had zero problems. No mold, mildew or smell.

2002 - Tonneau cover and rubber mat. Almost 4 years old in Jan 2026. No problems having the rubber mat. Tonneau cover leaks when it rains, but not a lot. Removed mat about 2 months ago, and all was well.

I have a roll up canvas bed cover and spray in liner. I added the bed mat to prevent dents and add stability to items. There are no issues with water intrusion nor mold or anything adverse. I've had this setup since May. If you take care to seal the bed to cover with a weatherproof foam strip you will find that even after days of heavy rain, there will be little to no water intrusion.
