Tonneau Cover Recommendations

Unless someone hauls tall items often that fill the bed it's unlikely they will drive with a flip up flipped. I considered the hard roll up and decided against it based on reviews a couple years after purchase. Many said that driving with it rolled up caused tears in the vinyl covering creating leaks. The design of it reminded me too much of an old roll up deck with fabric strips as the connectors. Too many moving pieces for my taste. But I am open to others opinions of them so how long have you had yours and how far have you driven with it rolled up? Can you partially open it or do you have to fully open it?

It was one of the 1dt things I bought. Had this Truxedo Sentry hard roll up tonneau cover for 2 1/2 years. No problems whatsoever. Either it's closed or if hauling anything, fully rolled up.

I've had mine a few months. If you zoom in on the picture I attached to this thread, you can see there's a strap on each side that keeps the roll in place when it's fully open. It takes 5 seconds to fasten the strap into the clip, and I've driven with it this way for hours on end, there's absolutely no issue
Can you partially open it? Yes, you can roll it up as far or as little as you want to access stuff in the bed. You should only drive with it fully open and secured by the straps, or fully closed. I don't see a situation where it would be necessary or useful to drive with it only partially rolled.
And, like the tri folds, you can loosen 4 knobs and remove it fully if you need ALL the room.

PS: one killer feature on the OEM Ford / BAK Revolver (and maybe others, I don't know) is a rail on each side that locks the cover along the full length of each side when you close the last section. It can't flap and it can't be pulled up anywhere. No Velcro or snaps or anything else to deal with, it just locks in place. Brilliant design

Get a flip-up hard trifold. They are nearly theftproof and can hold about 300lbs on top while loading the truck up or in snow load in winter. They also fold up against the back window to maximise available bed usage when required. There are some trifolds out there that do not flip up, leaving about 2ft of unusable bed when you need it. A soft cover is trivially ripped open with a knife, and many models use velcro or snaps to hold down the edges and are a serious pain to close in cold weather. Avoid the trendy and pricey roll-up covers as they will all be failed in a couple of years.

I got a Bison flip-back hard trifold for CDN$575 (about US$420) installed, cash, including taxes. That's about half of the Ford pricing and 1/3 of the cost of some of the overpriced American-built ones. Some of the Chinese ones on Amazon are also well-built. I had a Bison on a previous Ranger for many years, and it was a no-brainer decision to just do it again. I do not understand why American-built ones cost way more than they should, and they are certainly not built any better.

On my 2025 I installed a Bison soft rollup. I have been very satisfied with it. The cost was $400 Cnd.
which is much cheaper than the American brands. I do not have a side by side to compare, but it preformed very well on my Cross Canada Trip. It rolled up neatly when required to access the box and closed tightly with the velcro sealing every time.

I had a tri fold on my Nissan Titan and did not like it. It was a bear to install and the flip up action was not to my liking. For my Maverick with the low mounted RTT a trifold would not have worked at all.

During my trip there was little rain, but with the RTT above when I got rain there was no infiltration that I could see.

Mine fit with the bed rail that I used without problem. This is something to check if you are interested in a rail system. Some fit some do not.

How is it for keeping the water out?

I have a small amount where it meets the tailgate. I have never adjusted it and it is a little close to the rear window. I could move it towards the tailgate about an eighth of an inch to bring it into spec. That might eliminate the small leak during heavy rain and car washes.

I have the Gator EFX Hard trifold and it's been great so far. Doesn't fold up against the window but it is removable if I need something tall all the way in the back of the bed. And so far I've seen minimal water intrusion, even though I don't think I did a great job positioning the bulkhead seal.

My ‘25 Lariat came with the trifold cover and I like it quite a bit. I like that it doubles as a headache rack when fully open.

I didn’t have a cover at all on my ‘24 XLT and it was fine

Hey Now! I am looking for some assistance with deciding on a retractable, hard tonneau cover that has T-Slots for the addition of a rack system down the road. I have a 2025 AWD Hybrid Maverick. I have looked at Retrax, BAK, Truxedo, SyneticUSA options. I wanting some feedback from folks that have experience with this type of bed cover. I do not need to have a motorized version. A couple of features I would like! to have:
1: Be able to open & close(lock & unlock) without having the tailgate open.
2: Be able to add a rack system down the road(I am a fan of Yakima systems)
3: Integration with/or at least not inhibiting the use of the adjustable, internal, tie down, optional, bedside rail system from Ford.
3: Value. Features/benefits & quality vs. cost(I know this can be very subjective...I don't want to get into the weeds as I have seen other folks previously post on a similar thread here)...

I have seen some on Ebay by Willmoso and Sadeloos for just over $600. Link below. There are not many reviews there as of yet. Please let me know if you have any experience with those brands. Thank you.

Bison is not currently shipping to the US, according to the chat I just had with their customer service.

I bought a syneticusa retractable cover from amazon for 1,000 15 months ago. I like it. It takes up room, BUT there is still space underneath the box the retractable cover goes into.

I'm not a fan of the hard cover fold tonneau covers. While they don't take up space underneath, they still lose the same space if you ever needed to open the bed for tall items (refrigerators, furniture, etc.)

The two things I hate:
1. The space I lost, like others comment about the retractable covers.
2. In freezing weather, it sometimes locks up. I once couldn't unlatch it because rain got in and froze. I Used windshield fluid to get it to unfreeze. Most of the times, it works just fine even in freezing weather.

Leer Quad Fold. Lighter panels and opens up all the way for full use of the bed. Panels do not cover third brake light when opened all the way. A little more expensive then others but worth the price.

IF you are planning on adding bed cross bars or some other sort of accessory, MAKE SURE THE TONNEAU COVER WILL WORK WITH THAT ACCESSORY.

I have cross bars with the tonneau cover. A folding cover would not work, but my retractable cover does.
