Tonneau cover a must?

Not sold on any of the Ford tonneau options, but interested to see the aftermarket choices. Although, I'm not sure I'm going cover my bed. I live in DC so I'm thinking if people see a covered bed they'll assume there's something worth stealing in there...

After market are pretty much the same price minus factory installation. I know it's an easy no drilling install. But if the cost is almost the same, I'd pick the one that's professionally installed.

I really like the looks of it when it's close. Kinda completes the truck. My main issue is the price and how bulky it looks rolled up.

For my current lifestyle I can say I have no need for it but as other members here have pointed out, you're not gonna know you need it until you have it.

I kept my order for now so we shall see

I've had quite a few trucks in my life, never had a tonneau cover until I got my Ranger. I chose a softcover tri-fold, and I'm perfectly happy with it. No, it doesn't add security, but it is certainly a convenience. Light enough and easy enough to remove entirely if I need to carry something large.

Having owned a truck I personally find a tonneau cover necessary. It helps keep debris from collecting in the bed whether it be snow, leaves, bird crap or whatever. It will also protect whatever you choose to keep in your bed from being stolen or rained upon. If you have never owned a truck you might think that you won’t keep anything back there on a day-to-day basis but I can tell you that will likely change once you have the truck. I myself am not going to order a Tonnele cover from Ford. I would rather wait and purchase a cover from the aftermarket. I will have more options and it will likely be cheaper then buying directly from Ford. I have always used rolling soft covers because they are easy and don’t eat up bed space like a tri-fold cover when it’s open. Now with the advent of rolling hard covers, I will be looking for one of those and I recommend you do as well.

I agree, I’m a current truck owner with a Snugtop fiberglass lid tonneau cover, and I really like it. It has it’s limitations, but it doesn’t leak, and it locks. I don’t think there will be one like it for the Mav, with it’s unibody frame, so I‘m looking at options. I keep stuff in the bed daily, looking for something that locks.

I refuse to lower myself on options that the bad guy will do damage. If I worried about criminals to alter my life, I would stay home. I look forward to my soft top option. I will take the odds.

I had originally placed my order (XLT w/lux pckg) to include a tri-fold cover, but just contacted my guy at the dealer to see about deleting it. I really need to see the fit and quality before committing to a style of cover, especially on such a short bed. Also, the Ford build site mentions nothing about the Tonneau's being lockable, though the dealer assures me they are. Still, it's something I can always install later - either from the dealer or aftermarket - if I feel I really need it.

I got the tri-fold hard tonneau. In Canada it's only $100 more than the hard rolling and $200 more than the soft tonneau. It turns the pickup into a convertible-trunked sedan.

I've had trucks with and without them. I'll probably use the full length of the bed enough that I won't get one for the Maverick

I have a Extang folding TriFecta on my current truck and love it. It's very durable, easy to open or remove altogether. I priced one for Ranger 5' box, since it's unavailable for Maverick at this point, $420.00

Which model Trifecta do you have? Just checked their website, lots to choose from, a cover is a must for me.

Sorry for the delay, thought I had answered you. The Snugtop needs to fold over all sides (like a lid to a box) and without the gap between the bed and the truck, I’m not sure how it would fit.

As the Extang Trifecta was on the truck when purchased w/ 10K on it (5) years ago, I'm assuming it was the original Trifecta version or 1.0. It folds up and straps hold it at the front of bed. There are (4) spring loaded clamps which hold it in place. Less than (4) minuted to remove it completely off the truck. I'm guessing the 2.0 version has some differences. It does not move around once clamped and works just as well in very cold Michigan weather. Easy to clean and treat with 303. No issues whatsover over the (5) years I've owned it.

I never felt the need to have one when I used to own a truck. Tarps are pretty useful when it gets wet and you gotta keep something dry, and also there's the back of the cab (with those neat storage cubbies under the seats) that will fit plenty of stuff. I'm more into the bed extender as a enhancement, and having both seems overly cumbersome. In fact it seems they won't let you buy the soft roll up and the bed extender combined. I guess if you go over a bump the extender could jump and puncture the soft cover? Anyways, the amount of rear visibility it takes up when rolled up is also pretty alarming from the pictures.

Thanks. Yeah, that occurred to me after posting. A neighbors '79 El Camino has a weird front thing siliconed into the bed to make the tonneau work.
