I keep going back and forth since the Ford drivetrain memo went out on 12/14. I ordered an XLT Hybrid with the only option being the hitch. I put the hitch back on after Tim said the wiring isn’t figured out for the after market.

We have had a winter so far this year and it is only December. I don’t think AWD is needed but is nice. I would get the tow package if I went ecoboost.

Really want Hybrid MPG but the other side is it better just to get a truck that is really vs wait for hybrid? It would suck to pay 3k more but is better than the markups on awd right now.

Unless you have a real need for the AWD and/or towing capability, get the truck you want, not the one you *think* you will get quicker.

In my opinion, if you're in between and genuinely tempted by the EB I would switch my order to the EB. XL + Hybrid is going to be a rare combo if you're not a rollover, so I think odds are very high you'd roll over into 2024. If they stick to not offering a deal for rollovers and they increase prices again, you could be looking at another $1200 increase.

With the randomness of Ford's process no one can tell you for certain you wouldn't get an XL Hybrid this year. But we do know XL's are over ordered at almost double the capacity (26% vs 15%), and Hybrids are similarly over ordered at over double capacity (73% vs 35%). Assuming even distribution, there are .19 XL Hybrid orders where Ford is only producing .05 XL Hybrids, so just over 25% of XL Hybrid orders will be fulfilled in 2023. If this holds true, and the number of new XL orders added in future years matches the production increases, this means the median XL Hybrid order holder will wait about 2 years.

For what it's worth, I had a Tacoma 4x4 for almost 10 years. I lived in MD and thought it'd be useful for snow and maybe some light off roading. In the end there was never a place that 2WD couldn't take me (camping, etc) and when it snowed I just stayed home -- honestly didn't need to be out and all the other crazies on the road seemed like a far bigger threat than the slick roads. So I guess I'm saying evaluate your real needs and let that decide. I'm FAR happier in a more comfortable truck getting insanely good gas milage.

I asked myself the same question. it comes down to how bad do you need the truck. I really need a new truck So, i decided to make the jump to Ecoboost AWD and was even able to switch from priority 19 to priority 10.

Also, you should run the numbers of what difference it truly makes. I dive a lot on highways, where the MGP of either truck isn’t a massive difference. Hope you get exactly what you want in the long run! Good luck

I ordered and received my Oxford White XL Hybrid (Tow Hitch, CP360, and SIBL) in August 2022. I also had a chance to test drive an EB with AWD and liked how it drove better. Thus, I sold the XL Hybrid and ordered a 2023 EB AWD.

I suggest you try and get a chance to drive both Mavericks since they do drive differently.

The only one I haven’t test drove yet is EB FWD. The hybrid I test drove recently did have some of that brake touchiness that people talk about. I didn’t notice a big change in the feel. The independent suspension in AWD has rode nice. I wonder about the hybrid in snow but I have always been able to make 2wd and FWD work. Although the wife’s AWD has come in handy.

Thank you! Yeah I hear you. I asked my dealer about that as a possibility and they haven’t said much. I think they did all 2022 rollovers as 10 and 2023 as 11. They said by far most people ordered hybrid was hoping South Dakota would be different!

I"m voting for AWD. Why? South Dakota. AWD and 4K tow. AWD is fully justified in South Dakota.
If money is an issue change to XL.
That is what my Dad thinks but he also doesn’t like Hybrids. I debated XL but just didn’t seem wise with the limited build XLs where having.

Most of the year I think you are right. MPGs are the big attraction of the Hybrid. If ford had a plan to get every hybrid built it would be an easy decision to wait instead of getting nothing.

Being in SD, though, sure makes your decision tougher. Where's that damn AWD Hybrid we're all hoping for?!? lol

Easy to say if you’re young, but if I wait, and don’t get the Hybrid there’s no guarantee I get a 24. I don’t have too many years left.
