Discussing tire pressure is worse than discussing politics or religion.

the max psi is for max load. if your car is heavily loaded you need to increases psi. running lighter then max load the the psi should be lowered.

"Slightly harsher ride"? Seriously? Riding on max psi tires is equivalent to running on Fred Flintstone tires ;)

I remember when the Flintstones first came on, around 1960. I’ve probably watched all of the episodes at least once. Can’t say that I remember Wilma or Betty ever bitchin’ about the ride.

If Betty and Wilma ever got a ride in a Caddy, they would punt Barney and Fred in a New York second 😜

My maverick is the gas only motor ( ecoboost xlt fx4) and all.my ture are at 40psi which is what it had from the factory/dealership. Do sticker says 35. I get around 29mpg which is pretty good for what the truck is rated for. Also I live 50 miles from nearest highway.
FYI - Fact: Ford ships all Mavericks by rail. Tire pressure on my Maverick at time of pickup was 45 to 48 psi for rail car transport. In my console was the dealer delivery check list....4 or 5 things on the delivery check list before customer delivery, one of those items was reduction of rail shipping tire pressure to door sticker recommended psi.

Had a 800 mile route home from pickup. Maverick steering was excellent, but rode like a covered wagon. Stopped after 100 miles to find the psi ranged from 45-48. Dealer called a few days later about an unrelated issue, and admitted their delivery tech screwed up. That he was always supposed to lower the rail car psi. to door sticker to 35psi. Sales rep at Ford dealership even said the higher psi was due to truck being chained to the deck of the train car.

So my tires cold are sitting at 36-38 depending on outside temperature. And I am averaging 31-32mpg now.

Tire pressure is similiar to what OIL TO USE...it all a compromise! Higher tire pressure will bring better MPG, but a higher psi can reduce/affect handling and soft or rough ride and significantly affect the mileage one gets from of the tire. It quickly shows on the outside edges of the tire tread...I'm always amazed that people/customers think the manufacturer of vehicles & tires do not know best.

Just do like we did when racing on asphalt. Get the dealer to replace the air in your tires with Nitrogen. Set the pressure at the recommended pressure an forget about it. The pressure will not fluctuate with temp changes, so your tire size will not change.

I totally agree. And in this case, "over inflation" would be anything over 51 lbs. I was considering 48...
I usually keep my tires at 36-37 psi when cold for a little less rolling resistance which should keep the tires cooler and increase mileage. I've noticed running at 38-40 psi makes for a very bouncy ride and would seemingly cause more suspension wear and tear and possibly increase the chances of developing more rattles and squeaks later on.
