Also, you void the warranty on your truck if you use chains. Sure.... they'd have to catch you I suppose.
Thank you for the "void the warranty" post which seems to be requires in all threads.

From Ford's Lips to these pages.
There is almost nothing you can do to "void the warranty"

If the chains damage your vehicle, the damage will not be covered by the warranty but the warranty will not be voided.

They maybe meant "tire warranty".

But isn't that like really short anyways?
🤷🏻‍♂️

So, did you get the Alpha Trax? If so, how do you like the fit and performance?
I have not, but thanks for the reminder. Snow tires are installed but it's been warm. With the snow tires, I'll only need the alpha trax for a major storm. Doesn't happen every year but when you need them, you need them. This could be the year, it's snowing right now.

I went ahead and got the AlphaTrax. I had a couple questions and their customer service was excellent. They fit well, are easy to install and weigh less than any other chains/cables I've used. Just hope they perform well, if/when needed. I'll post to this thread once I actually use them in the snow.

Nice, I also bought the alpha trax after you asked. With the snow tires and emergency chains, the Maverick Hybrid cannot be stopped! Just need a whopper El Nino storm...

Quick update on the Alpha Trax tire chains. Even with all the snow I dealt with up in the mountains, I never had to use chains. My 23 XL Hybrid did just fine in moderate snow conditions with the factory tires and sensible driving. I almost put the Alpha Trax on once, just to see how they ran, but decided to stay warm and dry in my truck instead.

I guess I spoke too soon. In April, we had a storm with enough snow to require chain control. The Alpha Trax worked great. Plenty of clearance, ran smoothly and provided the traction I needed. The only downside is the rubber adjusters can take a bit of muscle to get on.

Anyone have a recomendation for tire chains. I won't be getting snows until next year and chains are always good to have. It's been 30yrs since buying chains, anyone have a preferance or ones to avoid?
This is old post but I never saw any good answers. I spent so much time looking for good chains I figured I’d save the next guy the trouble with some information. I ended up with 2 sets of ladder chains from a great seller on eBay. One is a cam style and the second pair is a 2 link v-bar 6.5mm chain. The cam style are nice as they can be placed very tight to the tire but the 2 link v-bar chains provide little spikes for ice and more chain on the tire.

Here’s why I went with ladder chains: Since I am using them in snow and ice on an off road trail to get to my camp, cables or highway chains were a risk in terms of breaking and wrapping around something. I needed something very strong in case a rock got stuck or I spun them too hard.

so, let’s talk ladder chains. unless you have 225/65/17r tires, actual 5.5mm chains with a 7.9mm cross link will be a very very tight fit in my opinion. There is a section of plastic behind the rear tires that has only an inch or so of clearance for the links. To be clear, 225 tires will work with these style chains but 235 and up might not.

If you have bigger tires than the 225 you can still get cables or Simon’s pattern chains like the ones peerless sells. Also, the 5.5mm chain with 7.9mm links should work on 235 tires. It’s not the top of the tires clearance that’s the problem, it’s the rear back sidewall of the tire.

if anyone wants the links or sellers just let me know.

Could you send me the link for 235/65/17r options? Appreciate it!

There is a seller on ebay that made these for me. They are 2 link v-bar chains (more ladders than a standard set and have to be custom made for that tire size they also have spikes for ice in addition to more cross ladders) $331 shipped. Please note they are non cam and will need at least one spider style chain tensioner but two for each tire is best. These offer the best grip and traction possible for the mavrick in my opinion. Please message the seller and talk to him first so you can be sure he knows what you want. I guarantee he will remember making them for my truck as the link below was made for my order. He will talk to you in great detail.

The other option is tirechainsrus.com and they are standard square link off road rated (stronger steel) chains with cams. You can just call the company number in the website and ask for the tire size you need but the link is below.

I’m adding pictures of the two chains. Also, when installing these make sure all the links on the back side of tire are tight and flat as can be. There is only an 1 3/8 of clearance in one spot and you need 3/4 for the links that sit on the inside sidewall. One of the pictures shows the spot on the rear inside sidewall where the clearance is tight, but works fine. I’ve tested both of these and they are fantastic. I’ve got a set of each type and put them on all 4 tires.

please note that there are some cheaper options around, some from the same seller from the eBay link. The reason these are more expensive is due to them being off road rated. I need them to get down the trail to my hunting camp. Very bad trail. If you just want to do highway and road, a standard set of ladder chains or the peerless or similar self tightening chains would fit as well. Just note that if you want another brand of ladder chains, the links should be 5.5mm give or take a little. When calling any tire chain company or asking a seller a question ask that.

Any other questions, ask. This took me too much time to work out to not share.
