We've had our maverick for about 8 months, and absolutely love it. But about 4 times now, there were moments where I would switch lanes and/or apply the brakes, and a intense vibration would run through the interior. Thought this was some sort of issue I had to worry about.

But I learned that this is actually Ford's lane departure warning system. It's designed to simulate the feel of running over a rumble strip to keep people alert. That's actually a pretty unique feature, glad it has it, and even happier to learn that it's not some sort of issue.

That shouldn't happen if you are changing lanes, unless you aren't using a turn signal. ;)

You didn't know you had a lane keeping system? I'd suggest you look at the window sticker to see what safety systems came with your vehicle and then read how they work in the owner's manual before you wreck your vehicle, or hit someone.

I was surprised by this as well when it first happened. I didn't read the owners manual cover to cover like others did before I drove it home.

That feature can be turned off by pressing the button on the end of the directional arm. At least that's where it is on my XLT.

And turn signals can be turned on using the same stalk to avoid this issue, while keeping the Lane Keeping System enabled to fulfill its intended purpose. :)

Here is where the real problem comes in. Apple Car Play loves to tell me to use the two left lanes, or the two right lanes when making a turn. I assume that means cross the lines and straddle in the middle of both of them LOL. Now that will make the Lane Keeping Assist active.

😆 You got me. In my defense, it only seems to do it on two roads. One where the lanes aren't every clearly defined, so I think that freaks it out. The other where, thanks to construction, you have to move into the suicide lane to get around cones.

"Tell me what your other car is without telling me your other car is a BMW."
My parents used to own a BMW once, lived up to all the BMW stereotypes. Was a white 3 series bought from a wealthy middle eastern gentleman who apparently bought the car as a college present for his son. But his son didn't maintain his grades, so he sold it as punishment. The car would go onto have several reliability issues through their 6 month ownership before being totaled in a 5 car pileup.

I knew the maverick had a lane keeping system, but most other lane keeping systems I've experienced just beep at you. To be fair, we never placed an order for our maverick. So we didn't necessarily select for our truck to have Co-pilot 360 which comes with the lane departure warning.

We missed the order banks opening in September, due to a dealership employee saying they didn't open until October. But by the end of October, our dealership made sure we had a truck fairly close to our original spec and sold it to us at MSRP.

Downside: Getting the truck so fast meant we didn't have a ton of time to research all the features.
Upside: We got our maverick after waiting 3 weeks and at MSRP compared to others who've waited 18 months and paid markups.

I can report the maverick's engine is quite good, the brakes, less so.

Sounds about right for a BMW. ;)

It has different lane keeping systems depending on the package. One warning the other "Arnold Schwarzenegger" you aren't switching lanes without turn signal. Also only works at certain speeds.
