Has anybody installed an alarm of any kind, what works and what to stay away from.

The car alarm has killed itself off. Only the owner reacts to an alarm going off. Everyone else just gets annoyed. There are some other alternatives;
1) I dressed up a dummy to look like an old lady and put it in the back seat of my '72 BMW. Used a slightly creepy mask to keep people away. Only issue I had were people who chided me for leaving my "aunt" in the car.
2) Less provocative - you can get an interior camera that will record anyone who breaks into the vehicle. Helpful if you want to identify and catch the Adam Henry.
