My dad has a 24 lariat and the other day he managed to get a golf club cover stuck when closing the tailgate. He managed to get the cover out but not the tailgate will not open. Tried the physical key as well as the clicker and it wont budge. Does anyone know if there is a release handle for it somewhere or a trick to unlatch it. TIA.

He needs to try pushing the tailgate closed while turning the key or using the fob and then pulling the handle. Even with nothing caught in my tailgate, every now and then I have to put my shoulder into the tailgate while pulling the handle to open it. I think it is because my aftermarket bedliner is thick and may be putting pressure outward on the tailgate. Something caught in there would do the same thing. The latching mechanism does not like the tailgate being under pressure.

You should consider adjusting your latch strikers. I can open mine with a finger or two after adjusting them properly.
