Tail Light Popping Out

How do you like the Maverick? I see your other cars are "Porsche, Lexus" and having owned both of those and being active on this forum for the 10 months I've been waiting so far on my Maverick.. I am starting to have significant doubts about my Maverick future. All car forums concentrate issues, but as someone noted above - it seems like the Maverick might be unacceptably cheaply built. There's cheap & charming.. then there's just cheap.

I got my XLT Hybrid last Feb. Its a great light utility truck. The finish is great, very comfortable and for an urban cruiser runs well. Outside of the usual teething issue like the tail light thing its been no bother. Dont look at it like its a high end lux-cruiser, its not, but its very good at what it does. I'd have no probs going on a 500km road trip in it.

I replaced both plastic retainer clips and bolted the tail light back in place yesterday

So far, so good. Hasn't popped out again.

Fyi, almost a month later and my tail light has not popped out again.

So I went to the local dealer and the service tech came out and dropped the tailgate and loosened the 2 screws holding each light in. He then popped the light back into place and tightened the screws. Pretty easy fix. Once the screws were tightened I noticed they were slightly shifted off their original position. This took the pressure off the light fixture and they haven't popped in a few days.

That's what I did several times myself. It was fine for the first few weeks, but it just started popping out again.

Your neighbor is stealing tail lights? Not cool in my book

I took out my rear tail light. The next day my neighbor told me they were stealing rear tail lights. I went to look at my lights and the left rear was popped out.

Easy fix, at least for mine. All I did was removed the 2 bolts on the inside of the tailgate jamb, popped the front back in place and then kept constant pressure on the front of the light where it pops out of the rear fender/ quarter panel as I tightened the bolts back. If you give it all the beans, it'll cause it to pop out again so make sure not to overtorque. I'd say an easy way to get it snug while not over torquing is to use a socket on a screwdriver and only tighten as much as you can using only the index finger and thumb. This will naturally limit how much you can tighten and should be in the right ballpark to keep it from popping out again.

It is a poor design though, first generation models will always have these issues so it's part of the joy of owning. I'm still just grateful I was able to get one.

Yes I have and they have not been able to get it fixed.

Try tightening the two screws just slightly tighter than hand-tight, this worked for me.

Yes, we have had this problem from day 1. Our passenger taillight keeps popping out. It’s almost as if the mold wasn’t made exactly right. We’ve taken everything apart and put back in place and still pops out. If anyone has a solution I would love to know
