I just bought a new 2025 XL 2.0 AWD with the 4k towing upgrade. I set up my FordPass yesterday. Somewhere in the process of exploring that app, a message appeared that advised me to upgrade to SYNC 5.0, which I gather is a very recent release, since everything I see online seems to refer to SYNC 4.x. I was also asked to turn on Automatic Software Updates. I retired a few years back after 38 years in IT, and my accumulated experience makes me leery of turning on automatic updates to anything. When I went digging around the app looking for what updates were pending, I found a statement that indicated that information couldn't be provided because updates had not been performed recently enough (it said none in the last 9 weeks, or 9 months, I really cannot remember which). That was late last night, so I gave up on looking further until today. Of course, today I cannot find any of that: not the invitation for SYNC 5.0, no way to list the pending updates, so of course, no advisory on how much time had elapsed since those were last done (given this is a new 2025 leftover, I'm wondering if any updates have been done since it left the factory). Can anyone here give me a rundown on what might be causing the apparent inconsistencies with my FordPass notifications, how to determine the actual status of my truck, and how I should proceed? I did send an email to my sales rep early this morning telling him that I might be looking to the dealership for some guidance on these issues, but I'm not sure what level of assistance to expect from them. Thanks for any help provided.

If you log into your Ford account on the Ford website you can also check if there are any updates based on your VIN. I doubt Sync 5 updates are coming to vehicles with Sync 4 from the factory.
Well, that's another issue. If I try to log onto that website from my PC (I don't web browse from my phone) even though it accepts my log in, it insists on forcing me to provide by birthdate and SS# and then tells me it cannot accept my input (which is correct). I don't have any such issue using the same userid and password to log into FordPass itself from the app on my phone. Pretty strange...

EDITED TO ADD: Is it possible I saw those notices on the display in the vehicle yesterday? I was poking about in there as well, and I don't have a real good handle yet on what is available from the vehicle vs in the app on the phone...

Doesn't sound right. I don't remember having to do that.

Are you at www.ford.com/myaccount?
Yes. I have been. AND, after consistently doing exactly the same thing 4 times over 2 days, when I just went there to generate a screenshot of what has been happening to post here, I logged in with no additional prompts and no issue. Murphy lives

OK, I was finally able to log into ford.com and access my vehicle information. I did not see anything further about SYNC 5, maybe that was a glitch of some kind. I did see the other message, which said that my pending updates cannot be listed because it has been >90 days since the last update was done, and that is as far back as the list goes. So, it looks like Ford wants me to enable Automatic Upates, set a schedule, and cross my fingers without telling me anything about what to expect.

That is a bit scary. Will I be prompted somehow before each update takes place, and given an opportunity to postpone it, or will all available updates need to run to completion before the truck can be driven again? What is the longest such an update process might take to complete?

The online doc states that connecting to an external WIFI access point can speed up the process. I do have one available. Does Ford use a satellite connection or some other network of its own for updates in the absence of external WIFI? If I tell it to use my WIFI, what happens if there is some connection error during the update process - do I run an increased risk of bricking my truck? It appears to me that Ford could have done a much better job of informing its customers about the details of this process.

The Ford website would not ask for your social security number! You either have a typo in the URL or your PC is hacked!

You are incorrect. It was part of a "Register This Account" dialog that was popping up after I submitted my username and password and click on "sign in with password". Evidently Ford is having web site update issues. This was happening 2 days ago with regularity. Then yesterday morning, there was no "Register This Account" dialog when I signed in, and I was able to access all the information without issue. At about 7 this morning. I tried to log in and received a "cannot sign in - site is currently being updated" display (or similar wording). Tired again a few minutes ago and its back to hte former behavior: showing the "Register This Account" dialog and failing to verify the (correct) information submitted to it. Pretty frustrating.

It appears that SYNC5 does exist and is rolling out in some late production 2025 models.

The list does not appear to include the Maverick though, so the OP must have seen an error.

Ford is rolling out SYNC 5 across multiple 2025 models, including:

Call Ford Customer Service directly. I've contacted them a few time about my dealer's lack of knowledge and they gave me information that the dealer couldn't even get through their channels.
The 800 number is on the FordPass app page on your phone...you have go thru some option selections to get there. The wait times are not bad at all. Ask them if Sync 5 is on your truck - have the VIN ready.

I can answer this now, without their VIN: Sync 5 isn't on their truck.

Others posting are correct - no SYNC 5 on my Maverick. I did get a screen image announcing it however, likely a Ford error like the sign in horseflop I'm still getting on the web (even though FordPass is working fine from my phone). So, thanks, the number will come in handy when I call them to fix my sign in...

Well, I resolved the additional prompt mystery. I was being misdirected to a sign-in page for Ford Credit (I may have copied an incorrect url link to my password safe). Evidently, there is additional information required (over what is needed to create a basic ford.com account) to apply for credit, which makes perfect sense. What was throwing me off is that the ford.som site was accepting my sign-in credentials and logging me in *before* requesting the additional info. Anyway, this morning I found my way to the log in page for owner vehicle information, so all is good :)
