I'm installing that update now! I was totally current though so I'm hopeful but expect failure! :)
Update installed, no real improvement :(

This is very cool!! I've been wanting to know if it was going to be possible to get Sync 3 or 4 on these trucks! I can't wait to hear more about this. I'm a sucker for wireless AA, but might just go with Sync 3 for just having something extra.

So quick update.....

I have tried every version of Forscan publicly available (including the beta) in an attempt to connect to the APIM to program. Unfortunately none worked. My guess is, sync 4 only uses pins 19-20 for CAN BUS where as Sync 3 uses 19-20, 53-54, and another set for HS4 CAN meaning Forscan is looking for the APIM on the wrong network essentially. Forscan supports Sync 4 vehicles so I am confident it will just take a targeted update to enable the programming. I just need to wait for the Forscan team to get back to me...

Thank you so much for digging in on this, I know there's not much I can do but if you need someone to run some things down or try something I'd be happy to help. My ODBII dongle comes tomorrow.

So far I believe I have a configuration that makes the ACM happy. That came from a 21 Bronco. Unfortunately haven’t had much luck making the APIM happy yet.

Gotcha. I guess I will be happy with wireless Android auto.
IF you have wireless Andriod, then you will have Nav from your phone. BTW, our CRV (apple car play and android car play) does not have Factory Nav, My M5 does have factory Nav, and I like Car play nav MUCH better.

So apparently 2022 transit connect vans have an option for sync 4. I need to find a vin of one with that option so I can pull the As Built data. I think that would be a great starting point for the APIM configuration.

So I figured I would go ahead and start this thread. @propp2531 and I have been working in the background on the potential of swapping Sync 4 into our trucks. Non Sync 3 Maverick systems present a challenge since an APIM does not actually exist as a separate module. The screen and software are run directly from the ACM. This means an adapter harness must be made to add in the required APIM and the ACM has to be swapped for a sync 3 based ACM. Thankfully that is fairly easy with passthrough harnesses existing for the ACM and all of the required leads for the APIM connector exist on the OEM ACM wiring. Below are pictures of the adapter harness and the first boot up of a Sync 4 APIM in a Maverick XL. With the easy part done, programming is next....

And for those wondering, this method would also work to add Sync 3 to non Sync 3 systems. Programming of Sync 3 would also be much easier, but where is the fun in that!
I am still trying to decide if there are sufficient benefits to Sync that I would use.

There isnt a huge difference between the base system and sync 3/4. Sync 4 gives you wireless carplay.

The two reasons I want to upgrade are 1. the base system is horrendously slow and buggy. 2 I want SiriusXM through the ACM rather than my phone.

If you are comfortable with how the current base system operates than this may not be a need for you.

Well, I don't need wireless CarPlay but would love to have SiriusXM as a part of the audio system upgrade to Sync3/4. In that case, Sync 3 would do for me, or even a Harman CTR ACM with the SDARS capability...if I could find one.

Unfortunately it looks like you can’t add SiriusXM without adding sync 3 or 4. I have a sync 3 and sync 4 apim. I’m going to try and get both working alongside @zackmd1 once I get the wiring sorted out

I was wondering if the Harman CTR ACM with SDARS would allow SiriusXM to work without the Sync3 upgrade. You are probably right about having to upgrade with the Sync 3/4 APIM to get SiriusXM.

Ok so time for an update. 2021 base Bronco As Built seems to work great for the 2020 escape ACM @propp2531 and I bought. No DTCs and the ACM seems to communicate with the rest of the vehicle. Going through the cluster, you can switch between AM, FM, and SiriusXM. Steering wheel volume controls work along with what appears to be all speakers.

Now for the bad news, I could not get the Sync 4 APIM to communicate with the ACM no matter how many variations I tried. This issue seems to be the root of most all APIM functions that are currently disabled (Bluetooth included). The best I was able to do was get the clock working…. So that means one of two things to me, I just haven’t found the right combo of as built yet for the APIM or the ACM is not compatible with the APIM. My guess is it’s just a programming issue since the bronco ABD works so well with the ACM.

I feel like a ctr with a Sirius tuner doesn’t exist. Only mention I’ve ever seen of it is in the manual
