I think it’s not a bug, but a feature, and it sucks.

When stopped you can browse your files and select artist, album ,etc.this works even if the truck is running. As soon as you start moving though the browse feature on USB is locked into what ever album you are listening too.

stupid freaking nanny

its stupid because the sync 4 doesn’t have a similar browse lock when listening to Sirius or the radio.

I want to slap the sync 4 engineers

It is the same on the older trucks too with USB. But I just use the steering wheel controls, not a problem.

If I were married to the USB stick idea I'd just get the wireless Android Auto adapter and a USB-C dongle for the thumb drive.

Even the steering wheel controls seem to be locked so you only can pick cuts off the same album

I don't know about Sync4, but on the non-sync radios it doesn't recognize folders/albums and just plays everything on the stick, so it's not an issue for me.

Sync4 should allow you to voice command the USB playback to other albums, even when in motion. It might take some practice to how they want the command structured, but I'm sure Ford has some information in the Sync4 manual. Have you tried that yet?

Yes, the nanny lock. What a pain. I know the guys who had Sync3 said that if a passenger was in the seat, they could scroll and change albums. One guy drove around with a bag of cat litter always in the seat! The 2022-2024 models without Sync had an easy fix with Forscan and I was able to fix mine using that trick. I recall that some other guys who had the Sync3 version were never able to figure out the fix due to the added complexity in the Sync modules.

The non-Sync units will recognize Artists, Albums, etc, but you need to have your USB stick organized in a certain way. I have written some tutorials on this forum on how I organized mine and was also able to get Playlists working correctly. It was a bit of a pain to figure out, but I've been rocking about 40 playlists since Sept 2023.

This thread has a lot of detail: https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/forum/threads/issue-using-usb-thumb-drive.37203/

Well Ic can at least confirm that if there’s no passenger you’re screen browse locked out other than current album track selection.
But…
You can use the ford voice control to do things like “play album ”Hard Candy” and it will find the album and play it. Not a perfect solution but at least it offers some options.
