This is all so reminiscent of when my Dad drove through the back of his garage. He was 83 at the time and had never had an accident in his life driving. He never drove again.

It was a sad situation and I feel for the OP whether this turns out his fault or not as I am sure this is a sad situation for him as well. Not easy reaching these points in life even if they are a part of life.
Your dad live in Amarillo? I had a neighbor who's wife had passed but every morning he continued to pull her car out of garage and park it near the front walkway. Then at night he would back it about 110 feet straight as an arrow at a very fast speed and stop inside the garage. One day I heard a big crash, ran over and he had backed through the back wall of the garage into a single room apartment. This was in a part of town that had been built before 1900 and it was common for relaxation, and sleeping rooms furnished, some for house maids or rentals for unmarried singles like school teachers, workers etc. It was his way of getting by while she was away. I have a great aunt who when alive had a shotgun house.
You could open the front door and back door and shoot a shotgun into one door and out the other door. Living, dining, walk through kitchen with bath to left, and bedroom with door to back yard. No wasted space for hallway!

I miss the old "emergency brake" lever in between the seats. What happens when you engage that brake switch there? Instant lockup?
Max rolling brake until actual lockup at something like 3-5 mph, I think someone posted.
