Going down the road our truck runs fine, tire pressure, alignment, each check out fine. However, when turning into any curve the steering resistance feels excessive, almost like I am fighting it (without the lane keep active). Anyone else feel this? Don't suggest I cut back down to the speed limit. Been there done that too.

It’s your lane keeping system when you get too close to the line.

Curt,
I agree with you. Over the 4th of July holiday. I was commenting to my wife on our drive back from Lamoille Canyon, about how much more resistance there is especially compared to my old 70's Chrysler's. Which had no road feel. You didn't steer them as much as aim them.

and Chrysler handling back then was downright sporty compared to GM!

I had a '72 Impala 400 in college.

There was something familiar about driving it that I couldn't quite pin down. It took a couple of weeks.

It eventually clicked that the steering felt like my friend's father's yacht, with the noticeable delay between turning the wheel and the power steering doing it's thing!

And then one night as I drove by the old golf course, now the site of heavy construction, I noticed all the potholes. "Shouldn't I feel that?" I wondered? and then I noticed the front fenders bobbing up and down a few inches, with me not feeling a thing.

You could drive that thing over a curb without feeling anything.

a couple of years later, in law school, I had a Plymouth Fury III wagon. It was clearly dying, and my father had ordered a new cougar ('88), after I discovered it had an extra foot of legroom, and would be giving me his '83 Cougar. Oops, the headroom was a few inches shorter, and we all preferred driving the '83.

Anyway, with it dying and having new tires, I went on "pothole patrol", deliberately hitting them.

Well, trying to hit them. It doesn't work very well when your tires are wider than the holes! (they were as wide as as dinner plates)

I get that too, it feels like the stock Continentals want to"follow the grade". It never feels unsafe though, just let's me know what the road is doing.

GM yacht steering was an accurate description. I had a '74 Nova. Needed to pay attention to wind direction before departure. Steering required a 1/4 turn tack into the wind in order to go straight.

Steering resistance = torque steering?

Recall hearing that for early front wheel drives.

I had a '70 Chevelle wagon that I used to tow my autocross car (Elva Courier). I installed Koni front shocks, rear adjustable air shocks, a rear sway bar from a Olds 442, and BFG radials. That wagon had better weight distribution than the sedan. I even ran it in an autocross ounce. Came in 3 rd in class against Camaros & Mustangs.

Looks like it’s time for a gym membership, ElderChuck.

Do you have the lane-keeping assist turned on and you're going over the line?
In his first post "elder Chuck" says
'I am fighting it (without the lane keep active).'
