Rusted steering knuckle?

Short of disassembling it and having the parts powder coated there's nothing you can do to keep it from being rusty. Even if you did that within a year or two it would still probably have rust.

my 2004 Toyota Avalon with 260,000 miles on it does not look as rusted as my 2023 Mav with 1200 miles on it.

Doesn't matter, it will outlast most of the truck.

^ mine looks like that in color, but a bit less rust - in SoCal

Not sure why. Perfectly normal.

There are brand new metal power poles all over the place here that are coated in the same surface rust. And there's a somewhat new bridge in humid New Orleans with a coating of surface rust.

If nothing else, just because I hate the way they look. I did sand mine down a bit and coated them in oil, I have not look at them since then.
