Came across this article this morning. UK comes up with a new way to enforce the speed limit...

"
Although this law doesn't apply in Britain, most vehicles sold in the UK will still have the speed-limiting technology installed by manufacturers.

As the Daily Mail explains, Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) technology can automatically restrict a vehicle's speed using GPS, satellite navigation, and speed-sign recognition cameras. If the vehicle exceeds the speed limit, ISA reduces engine power to comply with the legal limit. For example, on the M1, ISA can limit the car to 70 mph.

Before ISA reduces a car's speed, it warns drivers through visual, audible, or haptic alerts, such as vibrations in the steering wheel. If ignored, the system restricts engine power to slow the car but never applies the brakes. Manufacturers may use any or all of these warning methods."

imo, while it's possible that a maker would offer it as an option for parents to nanny their kids I don't see global it unless mandated by Washington. Then the lawsuits begin.

If Washington loves anything (besides taxing people to death), it's introducing new overbearing regulations on us. If it gives them more power, they'll be all for it.

Speed limit enforcement is a big moneymaker. If the cars limited your speed, no more tickets.
also, what is going to happen when the car sees a speed limit sign on a frontage road and all of a sudden limits your speed to 25 mph on a 70mph highway? That is a liability waiting to happen.

You can program a maverick nanny key now.

ARE YOU KIDDING!! the ticket industry is a multi-billion dollar racket. do you realize how much money Cities will lose if this were to go into place? and then cops can't say they pulled you over for speeding (even though you weren't).

does it limit speed?
Yes. Warning messages flash when set speed is attempted. Radio can be set to mute until front seat belts are on. Audio system can be set to limit volume. SEE MY KEY in manual. 2022 is page 66! I think I would buy a third key but any key other than admin key can be set to MyKey. All configurable options are selectable. I call this the "valet key"!🤗

This is why you and I pay so much in taxes:

Amazon reported record profits of more than $35 billion (75 percent higher than its 2020 record haul) and paid just 6 percent of those profits in federal corporate income taxes. If Amazon had no tax breaks, it would have paid 21 percent of its profits in corporate income taxes, or more than $7.3 billion.

This is another reason to hold on to your old iron and in time convert to electric . No on board Nannie’s and driver distracting tech( unless you want to add) no tracking of mechanical speedos for per mile taxation , choose the size and range and performance wanted on the ev drivetrain added.
Gasoline independant with a gas vin for registration and no electronic tracking of miles and/or driving .
Classics will never be banned and with custom ev conversion , no exorbiant gas prices , registration , driver override.
If they do limit amount of miles per classic allowed on the road , 2 or 3 vehicles will solve the problem .
The majority of the public can keep their lane assist and the $600 module repairs and reprogramming and such associated with all that tech .
Don’t get me wrong , for the average Joe that loves to keep a payment around all the time so they have vehicle constantly under warranty and who loves to shuttle constantly from dealerships or hang out on their own time in service waiting rooms it’s probably fine .
But I like my independence and my freedom to modify and beat on the machines of my choosing and to be able to drive the way I want on and off road .
That would be just great if they limit the speeds of local roads and the parallel dirt roads such as test highway in our local desert were then affected !
No thanks .

If they don’t install the speed limiting feature, due to speeding tickets being so lucrative, they will most assuredly make it so speeding tickets will automatically be sent out to the offending driver.

does it limit speed?
Yup!
It’s the Ford “MyKey” “feature”. I hate it, but it might be good if you let others drive your Maverick. Only my wife has been allowed to drive my Maverick, and even then in specific situations! (No, not sexist. She is a great driver, and neither of us have been in an accident in the last 30-years. I trust her, I just hate letting my Maverick out of sight?)

I'd be going way off topic if I said too much on the subject, but you have a very valid point. An entity as big as Amazon can work "with" government to get their deals and favorable treatment. Joe's corner hardware store, not so much. Without going too far into it, I'd say that everyone, every entity should pay the same rate with no exception.

I get the need to get people to slow down and when conventional methods are ignored, it can be an open invitation to big brother politics.
There's a city here in Southern California that is experimenting with cameras that are triggered if a vehicle is operating 10mph or more over the speed limit. I think that is a much better alternative to built-in speed reduction.

It is how big business and big politicians work together. In your example (true with most VERY big corporations) The politician, (both the "D" and the "R") gets you a super large tax break to lure you to their state/city/whatever. Or, said politician gives you a nice fat several billion dollar "incentive" (Micron, Boise?) to build some new "chips." (not potato). Now comes election time, and Mr. Politician opens up his pocket as wheelbarrows of CASH from Micron...Errr the "business" pour into Mr. Politician's pocket! It's called "buying votes".
Easy Peezy. Nothing new. Been like this for generations and will continue. A few years later when that round of money dries up you have "round two" and on and on and....
