Hi All ...
Looking to upgrade the speakers for a better, richer sound quality (not necessary the loudest). Also I am to a wiring technician or sound system enthusiast, therefore I am looking for an option that is simply a 'plug & play' and drops in's and connects to the existing wiring easily.
I think, I might just do the front door speakers, don't have the nerve to open up the dashboard or the rear pillars.
Any good plug and play option for the door speakers will be highly appreciated.

Nothing is exactly plug and play. Aftermarket speakers use different terminals. I advise looking at Crutchfield for your purchase. Lots of choices across all the price ranges. They will give you an install guide as well. They typically include adapters that make the jump from the factory wiring to the aftermarket speaker.

The Powerbass OE652-FD are probably what you are looking for as they're plug and play.

Maybe I've just gotten lucky but personally I think the doors are more involved than the dash tweeters. It's mostly just popping off the A-pillar and then the tweeter grille. That'd also open up the PowerBass OE65C-FD and fancier Focal IS FORD 165 for drop-in other than a bit of wiring work to crimp on the right connectors which I think neither set contain out of the box; supposedly Metra 72-5600?

I'm almost done with an upgrade on my XLT with base audio system. I have a few more bugs to work out before I can post.

I ordered a harness from plugnplaykits.com with a Kicker Key 200.4 inline. Plugin was super simple, pull the heater control panel that's held in with clips, unplug and plugin inline. The audio system isn't behind the screen, it appears the screen is just that, a screen

For the door I ordered Metra (equivalent) part # 72-5602 from Amazon and they plugged right in.

I also opted for the 4" speaker pigtails from plugnplaykits, they fit the Ford connetors perfectly and look like they will work with the dash tweeters.

At a minimum replacing the door speakers will help a lot. The magnets on the factory speakers are tiny. Depending on the speaker you may or may not need an adapter bracket. The Kicker speakers I ordered included an adapter bracket.

If you're considering adding a sub there are really nice cable enclosures on both the front and rear doors.

I completely agree with your apprehension about the rear trim. They are super easy to break and super hard to get off.
