Changed plugs yesterday, 30k miles. Electrode and insulators looked good but the ceramic has heat or scorching discolouration.
Any else see this? Is it typical?

This is concerning since Ford recommends plug change at 100,000 miles, which is what I planned on. Thx for sharing. Curious why you changed.did you have an issue?

i'm no mechanic but i'll make the ridiculous analogy to the ceramic heat tiles on the Space Shuttle. It's normal and expected?

all plugs will change color a bit, what you should have checked was the gap, which they all look consistently the same ,so all you did was pay a bunch of money on a unnecessary plug replacement, but no harm caused except to your pocket book

It sounds like a 50k mile interval for Ecoboost Spark plugs replacement is appropriate.

Did you replace with the same Ford plugs? If so, what was the cost?

No issues. I was bored and curious. Having already changed differential and PTU oil I thought what the hell.

The stains do make it look like combustion gases are leaking thru the plug at the ceramic/metal interface. @Cigargoyle was correct about the corona stain. The high voltage traveling thru the plug attracts the dirt & oil particles from the underhood environment, and it sticks to the exposed ceramic insulator.

Same OEM plugs. Cost me $50 from a local online marketplace sight. I checked with dealer and was quoted $23 each CAD. Crazy price!

Anyone changing plugs, look into ruthenium plugs, the best for high compression tough environments. I used them in my natural gas f150
Google ruthenium plugs, even better than iridium.

No turbo charged engine should ever go 100k before change will they sure should you no. 30k is pretty standard.
Also gap them down to 28-30thou.

They look good to me other than the gap.
30k is the appropriate mileage also. Almost every engine tuner recommends that as well as almost every turbo engine before. I run a lot of high hp ecoboost engines and change at 30k gap to 28 and have zero issues.

I just checked the gap on these used plugs. They are at .030”.
