Hello all. I have a job-2 25 Lariat AWD with 4K tow package on order. I am concerned about someone stealing the spare tire. I see plenty of vehicles rolling down the highway with dangling hoist cables (spare stolen) and near as I can tell, there's no built-in hoist lock for the 25 Mav.

What's is everyone using to prevent some scum from dropping the spare and driving off with it?

Thanks.

Not saying it doesn't happen, but why? Who would want to steal a donut? I could see someone who is desperate staling 4 full size tires off of 4 newer trucks that come stock with full size spares, but donuts?

Just a guess. Where you see dangling hoist and cables you are perceiving the spare was stolen. And it might be, I would think or perceive that it's more likely they fixed a flat on the truck. Instead of taking the time and effort to replace or it doesn't fit in the cubby for it. It's now sitting in the bed waiting to be repaired and let the service technician fix the tire and remove the spare that's now on the vehicle and replace the spare tire back underneath. Or their wife's vehicle only has a doughnut and they robbed Peter to pay Paul to keep her safe. I don't think thieves would work that hard for so little of a return. Besides it's easy to get caught by the size and awkward handling. The catalyst converter would be a much better $$$ and easier to carry.

The Maverick is a real spare on a steel rim but not necessary the same AT but AS tire. From what I've read it is the 225 not a 235 as well.

Of course that's my opinion and I've been wrong before. The biggest issue with locks is the amount of salt and debris it gets may make it not accessible when you need to get the spare I guess I live dangerously besides if they want it bad enough they will steal it. I would be more worried with the wheels and tires on the truck, than the spare. FYI if they want them, locking lug nuts won't stop them.

"Back in the day" 😁 of 2 door work trucks....when most rims were steel. Guys would run a chain with a pad lock through the rim. Winter would freeze and corrode the locks. Then they couldn't get the spare free when they needed. They ended up having to cut off the locks or the chain.

I never thought it made sense to rip copper out of a building or steal AC compressors - but these days nothing is safe. I

That said, 'm not going to worry too much about someone taking the spare but it DOES happen and wondered if there was an easy fix that everyone uses. I guess not.

I see some small cable locks on Amazon that look like bicycle locks, so that's something if I want to give it a shot if it bothers me too much.
