I'm wondering if anyone has come across this. About 50% of my driving time contains a loud rattle from what sounds like a tin can being pulled from behind.
This just started a couple of days ago. It comes and goes. It does not change with speed except that it is a very slow rattle when stopped. I cannot associate it with tires, axles, engine, etc. I took a quick look under the truck and didn't find anything obvious, such as a loose muffler or exhaust pipe since that's kind of what it sounds like. Any ideas?

2024 2.0 ecoboost, FX4, 4K tow.

Thanks,
Alllen

I've read previous posts where squirrels have stored acorns in the wheels and other places. Makes more noise than you might think. Do you keep your truck outside?

This happened to me and sounded exactly like dragging tin cans.

After six months of believing I was hearing a rock rolling around somewhere underneath our Toyota Highlander- I started to rip out the 3rd row seating false floor that's not easy to get to and boom found a golf ball there and we don't play golf- Previous owner must have dropped it years before we took delivery - Kind of funny -

if you have had dealer service, make sure they put all the bolts back in the skid plate, and that they are tight.

Mine only makes that sound when it's cold, once it warms up it goes away. Im thinking it's a loose heatshield.

Any rattle annoying.

Not related, but maybe it is, had a Jeep Cherokee that rattled. Turn out it was the cat converter, beads loose. They rattled when engine running. Had a muffle shop replace it. Quieter!

Few weeks after, Jeep issued a service letter About cat rattling. And would reimburse if cat replaced. Sent receipt, got my money back.
