When I first looked at the article I thought the same thing seeing the Maverick and the Buick and not seeing a Mercedes.
I then realized that it must be a town.
Years ago a lot of journalists, especially small town journalist started omitting the state in which the story took place, referencing just the town or city. I'm guessing that they don't realize that even their small town news can be carried on the internet worldwide.

Across the road was a driver in a Mercedes, who stomped on the skinny pedal to make a left turn in front of traffic that started to move on the green.
She had to cross 3 lanes of traffic to get into the road that had a large business.

I believe that is called a "Boston" left. Scared the crap out of me first time I saw it,,,,,,

Yes, the deformation of the Front Seats (as mentioned) is still considered a "crumple zone".
In the overall, crash-worthiness of a modern vehicle.
Until another form is found. We will have to live with it.

This crash, was a high-speed frontal impact. The deformation of the Mavericks' roof is a clear sign, of the sudden stop of forward movement.

This could have easily caused the rear passenger to break their neck..
Since, there is NO air bag on the back of the front seat..
And the seatbelt, being the only way to stop any forward movement.

This is just another example of just seconds of Poor Judgement...
And NO this is NOT an Accident..
