For all of you out there whose Mavericks have been damaged a year or less into ownership, this post is for you.

Let me set the scene for you:

It's Friday night, just got home from work. It's the weekend, and I'm also stoked for Friday next week: Heading out to the Ocala National Forest for our virgin voyage of the cargo trailer camper for some Labor Day Weekend Fun. (Yes! It's mostly built! Pictures upon final completion.) Anyway...

Had a mean craving for pizza and wings, and placed the order on the drive home anticipating the perfect timing at the pizza place. Pull in, find a parking spot away from everyone, take the usual precautions. I exit my truck, get to the end of my rear bumper, and I see...

SOMEONE IN A WHITE TOYOTA SIENNA, BACKING UP AT 30MPH (probably an exaggeration, but you KNOW what I'm talking about) AND COMING STRAIGHT AT THE CORNER/REAR QUARTER OF MY MAVERICK. All of this was happening in slow motion...it might be five years later for all I know...and my brain is processing: "That f'er doesn't even see my truck!" I stood there in shock for what felt like an eternity before I finally yelled out, "YOOOOOO!!!!! What the hell are you doing?!" The dude literally stopped 6" from my bumper, paused for a moment, and then took off.

I walked to the other side of my truck just to make sure no actual contact took place. Everything was safe.

Walked into the pizza place and nearly threw up. Watching all of that happen was just too much to handle. Literally watched my life (and my Maverick's life) flash before my eyes.

Pizza and wings were really good though!

Dang the same thing happened to us at a Pizza Hut parked on the far side no one for 5 parking spaces either side. Waiting for them to bring our order out to the truck and this driver in a older model black frontier with what looked like scrap metal in the the back took the whole distance and was paying more attention to the sloping curb for the door entrance then the fact he was less than a foot from my bumper. I feel certain if they’d had a hitch on my honk would have been too late.

And what jiu jitsu pose did you assume during all the preliminary screaming before spending the next "five years" pushing his sienna 70-80 feet away from your Maverick?

We had pizza last night but thankfully no drama and the Maverick was at home safe in our garage!

Yup. You got lucky.

I had a PennDOT snowplow (yes the big one) back right into me in my old F150. Dude never looked, just stopped, and went into reverse to back through an intersection. BTW, the state is never liable.

That truck of mine was jinxed. When it was only two weeks old, some kid in a lifted jeep hydroplaned next to be on a highway. Hit me three times (front, rear, then door) while pushing be into a guide rail. Replaced or repaired every body panel on it.

If that wasn't enough... Two weeks after getting it back from wreck #1; I had it at scout camp. I had parked way off in the far corner of the lot. Sure enough, some young driver backed straight into it.

Then there was this mom teaching her 14year old how to drive. They were stopped at a stop sign. I went through the intersection (I didn't have a stop) and the kid assumed everyone stops and drove straight into my right side.

Oh yeah, my dad was following me through Knoxville one day. I was watching in my rearview mirror as someone came flying up an on ramp into the highway -- and into the right rear corner of my truck. In the mirror I could see the whole truck lift up and spin. Luckily, dad was unhurt.

I wish I could make this stuff up. I can't. As you said, just SLOOOOW motion memories that continually haunt.

If I had to "assume a position" it probably looked like this out in the parking lot, because in my peripheral vision saw a younger dude looking at me with a smile.

I likewise had a cursed car. It was a Mazda POS. Trusting VWs more than Mazdas says a lot.

Moral of the story? Have your pizza delivered, never pick it up🤣
