Slight rattling noise behind right air vent dashboard

[Syntax Error]

Received my Maverick last month and have been loving it. Now time to ask about some quirks if anyone knows of a fix.

I can hear a slight rattle from what sounds to be behind the rightmost AC vent behind the dashboard somewhere. Anyone else have this issue? I figure it's some loose fitment somewhere but if there's some easy fix someone knows of I'll try that before I start complaining to my dealer about it.

seems like there's been a lot of post in that general area for awhile now. most of them relate it to the windshield. that may or may not be your case, no idea. but you can search the forum for like, squeak, rattle, windshield and see post, comments, resolutions, etc.

I'm going to put my money on the windshield pucks being the issue.

I had Safelite replace my windshield the other day. They were very professional. I watched as they explained everything they were doing while replacing the windshield. If I had the annoying rattle, I would pay the Safelite service charge, for them to remove the windshield, and reinstall it properly.

Yes I know it is free from Ford, but you probably would have to leave your truck for several days. Safelite knows how to work on the Maverick.

Could I tell if the windshield isn't mounted properly? Would there be any flex if I push upwards from the inside, for example?

not positive but i dont think so. from my understanding its tight tolerances and many find fault in the "plastic hockey puck" the factory uses for alignment making the squeak. I haven't had any issues so far with mine so maybe others with more knowledge can chime in. Good Luck !!

Nope. The issue isn't that the windshield isn't glued down. The problem is that the alignment pucks at the top where it meets the body are touching the metal, making that squeaking sound.

Ford still hasn't issued a TSB for this, but they're aware of the issue.

Yup..sounds like a continuation of a long time issue around the windshield. If that is what it is, Ford should have corrected this by now

I have a dashboard rattle near the driver side vent right against the windshield. It is intermittent but when its there it is very noticeable. I took it to my dealer yesterday. They test drove it and luckily the rattle appeared. They said Ford has a CSS for this problem as the rattle is coming from the dash rubbing against the windshield. The fix is called something like Serenity and Pleasure. I am not making that up. They have to remove the entire dash so they can install a type of rubber gasket that will take care of the rattle. The problem is my dealer needs the truck for a week. I asked why so long and he explained it is not a small job. Still don’t know why it takes that long but I wasn’t going to argue about it. Taking it in this Monday. At least I get a loaner.

Buy black felt from walmart. Cut into 1/2" wide strips. Fashion a coat hanger with a round closed loop and shove the felt between the blue and black plastic at the defroster vents. This is tricky to do since it's on the side of the vent cutout that's closest to the driver/passenger, not the side towards the windshield. I had success with the drivers side. Now I will do the passenger side probably today.
