Noise rattling when first starting hybrid

When the gas first kicks in on the very first time it starts it sounds terrible loud and rattling

Could be an issue with the damper/static clutch assembly or any number of other possibilities, really.

You're conflating two things here. When the ICE engine first kicks on there is a faint mechanical interference sound from the HF55, faint and not concerning at all.

The 2.5 essentially has variable valve timing and it is opening up and holding RPMs in an attempt to get the engine to warm up to an acceptable operating temperature. The engine sounds coarse when this happens - it lasts for 20-30 seconds and then the ICE settles down to a very smooth and quiet level of operating.

There are no issues. It's the same as you starting an ICE engine on a cold morning when it holds RPMs to warm up. Same exact thing.

This is a troll account who is mad that the ICE engine holds RPM and opens valves to warm up the engine. They will likely never come back to even comment let alone provide any video or audio evidence at all.

This is why @Administrator needs to put a 7 day hold on accounts before they are allowed to create threads and spam the boards with crap like this that makes people believe Mavericks have issues.

It's hard to say for sure without hearing it, but I would say that I have that too. It sounds like a subtle and sporadic rattling sound that only occurs for a minute or so after a cold start. IMHO it might be a lean misfire caused by emissions constraints. My wife had a 2001 Escort ZX2 that also had a lean misfire when it was cold. No codes generated, of course, and no long term issues either. I've never heard it when the engine is even slightly warm.

Mine had a noise when I start it cold. It sounds more like a exhaust rattle. Will have dealer check it at first service.
