Dealer quoted 9 hrs to replace $400 cabin heater core……seem about right? Reason is too hard/sad/funny to believe…..left a candle on the dash close to defrost vents, melted and ran down into dash heater…..now HVAC controls dont do much…..

The entire dash needs to be removed for that to happen. So, while I'm not a tech, that's not outrageous.

🤭😯😉 hmmm👍👍👍👍
Instead of candles maybe try ambient lighting that plugs into the USB port or is battery operated.
I understand if you're Amish and can't use that stuff🤫 I won't tell

Why place a candle on the dash?
The headliner is combustible.
The back seat isn’t as comfy as the old cars of the day to be romping around in them lol.

Labor time is appropriate. Part cost might be high.

Remove & Replace Heater Core: 8.5hrs
[Optional] Add 0.3hrs per heater hose.

Just thinking. The blower for the heat/air should be closer to the foot well. At least that’s where it’s on in my work van. That wax has to melt really good and travel through the ducts to it for it to jam it up.
maybe it just solidified in that one set of ducts and causes it to not move, like switch the flue to defrost or footwell.
Idk I’m just guessing. I’m the kind of person that would take the dash vents out get an heat gun and try to mess with it before spending that much. Carefully I might add.
There’s a few how-to’s or diy’s on how to remove the climate controls and vents.
sorry for being long winded but just trying to help save some money and time.
good luck op

I know you aren't the OP in the situation. You mentioned the blower.
I thought I would post a few pictures of what's underneath the dash. Showing what you can get to by releasing the glove compartment drawer.
Here's a few pictures under the dash without the glove compartment in. I think that's the fan motor right below where the filter is.
I realize the heater core is probably buried.
Maybe they'll help someone.

Yup that’s just my exact thought, thanks.
Also there’s a thread of how to take apart the center

Thank You
I don't need to take apart anything more. I took the pictures when I had it apart changing the cabin air filter. I only get myself in more trouble when I take stuff apart and attempt to put it back together.
