So, from what I have read the rotary style shifter will default to park when the Maverick is shut down.

What occurs if there is a loss of power while driving? Its an electronic transmission, will it try to drop into park? I assume there are safety features in the design to prevent that, but what does happen?

I'm not suggesting anyone try it, just a random thought that occurred to me.

VSS vehicle speed sensor needs to show the vehicle isn’t moving for it to go into park.

someone needs to run theirs out of gas running 70 on the expressway to see if it goes into neutral though!

Had a hybrid Escape (2020). It lost almost all electric at 70mph (was one of the few bit by the "stop safely now" bug before it got fixed). No instrument cluster (titanium edition, LCD IC), no head unit, but hazard and light on shifter still worked and brake/headlights were on. It didn't shift into park until it came to a stop. But once it did, it was done for. Even with a boost/jump, the tow truck driver could not get it out of park. Had to drag it onto a flatbed.

Ford has it so its safe enough it won't cause more issues.

I've got one for you. I drive a 2023 Ecoboost for work, and have had a pretty ridiculous experience so far.
1. Twice the truck has shifted into park while driving on the freeway. The RPMs redlined. I looked down and the park indicator was lit up. I shifted it back to drive and kept going. It happened 10 minutes later. Ford replaced the shift control module.
2. I backed into a parking spot to wait for an available gas pump. I put the truck in park and when I released the break, the truck accelerated backwards, and over a curb. I turned the truck off for a few minutes, then pulled up to the pump. I put the truck in park, released the break, then the truck accelerated forward and almost hit someone. Ford replaced the valve body.
3. I pulled into my driveway which is on an incline. I put the truck in park, and it continued to send intermittent power to the transmission and it kept bumping the truck forward.
4. Three times in one day (one of them on the way to drop off the truck at Ford) I lost all power to the transmission and the RPMs peaked at 4,000. The shift indicator was in neutral.

There are other small annoyances like the screen getting stuck on the backup camera, the climate control not responding or the touch screen not responding, but the issues above are really making me hate this truck. It has become a huge safety issue.
