Shifting into reverse or Park while moving forward?

I leaned the in reverse door open jumps to park the fun way. Just like to say the Kid that thought about that should be fired. Cracking a door to check blind spots or establish a line was taught when I got my class B.

Hi folks,
I searched but am a novice and probably missed the answer to my question:

Can a maverick hybrid be shifted into reverse or park while the vehicle is moving forward? For instance, by accidental turning of the shift selector.

I tried RTFM and didn’t catch it there either.

The "danger zone" is in the 3-5 mph zone.

You don't want a false shift WHILE MOVING SLOWLY.

Traveling faster than about 5 mph the Maverick will not shift to anything other than Neutral.

As others states, the knob is just a human interface device. Just an electronic input. Only a computer can shift the vehicle. And above 5 mph it won't do anything harmful.

At super slow speeds it will make the move.

I have open the drivers door to look while backing my Encore on to ramps to install a trailer hitch.

I hit the engine stop button on mine rolling very slowly and came to a screeching halt. Seems if you press the stop button it goes into park automatically. So I guess if you want to leave the truck in neutral the engine cannot be off.

Yeah - not a fan of the rotary selector. Needs to have a lock / detent that requires additional action to move to R or P. Made that mistake a few times in the first week of ownership.

Not sure about Ecoboost, in Hybrid you can hit the L button to open door and stay in neutral (engine on).

The manual says how to use Neutral engine off (for towing etc...).

GM cars used to have the auto select with P-N-D-L-R order so it would be easier to rock the vehicle out of a stuck in mud or snow condition.

I stopped the engine of my Mav in D once and it went to P by itself.

When I was young there was a comic, Brother Dave Gardner, who was from the south. He told the story about LC, the governor's chauffeur, who drove an AT car for the first time and was enjoying a high speed race until he shifted from Drag to Race.
