I was driving my ‘23 Ecoboost Maverick without issue, but suddenly the service engine light came on. The code is P0456 (EVAP/Emissions related to the purge valve.) No issues otherwise during my ~3k miles of ownership.

I have an appointment scheduled with a dealer, but figured I’d see if anyone else has had a similar issue - for what I was able to search this hasn’t come up. No spray in bed liner or open recalls, so I’m guessing just faulty parts

I had it twice on my VW Tiguan in the first 4,000 miles. Service tech says it happens often on some purge valves. Ford Authority reports Ford switched to a more compact valve several years ago and started having some problems.

I have the same code. Been driving with the cel on for quite a while now, months. Dealer says part is back ordered.

Same here, it has been over a month waiting on the fuel tank pressure sensor. The deal replace the the solenoid valve and that did not fix the issue. Starting to worry about CEL burn-in on my instrument cluster. I can live with out the amber glow already. I know of others waiting on the same back ordered part also.

Thanks, PM sent with VIN and Dealer concerning the EVAP repair. Also had the air bag recall performed and was disappointed with the condition of the headliner after service. I have not had a chance to have them resolve this issue yet.

I have had my 2023 Eco Boost since January and pushing 4000 plus miles and haven’t had any issues or warnings. Not even a recall yet. But will be on the look out for this. 👍

Update: The dealer has looked over the truck and came back with an answer that the purge valve failed causing two codes -P0451 and P0456. They are attributing the failure to the Maverick being undercoated with Fluid Film (rust prevention) and said that it would not be covered under warranty due to that reason. The parts/labor were quoted at ~$1,300.00, with the part being on a national backorder.

I’m going to check in with the dealer tomorrow to get some more information about it, but it would appear on the surface that undercoating may cause an issue for some folks….I did see a recent post by another member on here who had the exact same issue/codes, but he was able to have it covered under warranty at his dealer.

I’ll update the thread as I get some more answers, but I really hope @Ford Motor Company will come through on this issue as it seems like it could affect a number of us who had their Mavericks undercoated.

Dealer got mine in today same issue. Purge valve on charcoal can. Part on back order. No mention of undercoating as its impossible for anything to get in or out of the EVAP system.

Update #2: After going back and forth with the dealer, they told me Ford would not accept the work under warranty. I opened a customer case with Ford and long story short, even up getting nowhere with the Ford representative. I tried to escalate and show the representatives instances of this happening with other members, but their response was ultimately they can’t do anything, so just go to another dealer to see if they’ll cover it under warranty. The dealer basically wanted me to replace the entire EVAP system because of the undercoating (absurd).

Needless to say I’m frustrated with Ford and their dealership network….it really is a shame that it’s so hit-or-miss.

After some testing and research, I’ve narrowed it down to the now infamous part NZ6Z9D333A that many members know is on galactic back order with no ETA from Ford. I’ll update the thread once I have the part/get the truck fixed.

If your issue is in fact the purge valve on the charcoal canister, I believe they are available from Dorman (P/N 911-216) - this is readily available on Amazon, Rock Auto, etc. It installs relatively easily to the canister with a 1/4 turn and plugging in the electric connector. I’ve narrowed down my issue to p/n: NZ6Z9D333A (on back order from Ford)
