Rodent chewed wires was the issue for me, a butt splice and shrink tube was the cure.

Probably not your problem if your mechanic actually put eyes on it.
I mean, can't really trust that mechanic, he seemed confused. Where exactly were the wires damaged, under the car or under the hood?

Different problem but some one reported a 40? Pin connector under truck (near a front wheel ?) was not totally plugged together and seal allowed water entry which caused his electrical problem. I have no idea if your wire could be in that connector. I think I would go back to dealer and see if they would check some of these things out. Fuel in canister could happen if you put too much gas in tank ("topping off"). Some top their tanks frequently and do not have canister problems so it most likely requires truck to be on slope or something also before using half or whole gallon of gas, who knows.
