I wanted to find what it would cost to transport a newly purchased Maverick from an out of state dealer. I made the mistake of going online and searching. In order to get a quote I had to provide email and phone number. I gave email and phone number to 2 (two) sites. I have been getting contacts from as many as 20 or more so called "Transport Companies" PER DAY giving low dollar quotes both by phone and email. Many (most) have non English names and voice messages that can't be understood due to poor English.

I have not responded to any and block both email and phone numbers but contacts keep coming.

My suggestion is; if wanting a quote to transport a vehicle contact a dealer and ask who they use or recommend. Don't make the same mistake as I did.

As a general rule, anytime somewhere requires a phone number and email to get a quote, they're going to immediately sell your info and you'll get overwhelmed with spam.

Solution: Setup a thrown away gmail account and use it to set up a google voice number, if it's actually something important. As soon as you're done with whatever you need it for, disable the google voice number, turn off all notifications, and log out of it. If want to keep if for the future to use again, you can.

If all you're looking for is a ballpark quote to get the feel for how much something would cost: Google throwaway email accounts, pick one and use an obviously fake phone number (like 555-123-4567) to get the quote, then let the throwaway account delete itself after a week. I should think it would be obvious, but don't actually use your real info when you sign up for these. If you have to give an address, pick a house number that doesn't exist a few houses down from you or one a few streets over.

I called a local classic car dealership, and asked them who they trust with their transports, and I have a buddy who used a transport recently, and asked him.

I used one of their recommendations, and everything worked out fine. No spam, no burner accounts, no burner Google Voice phone numbers, etc.

Price was fair, and my vehicle arrived as expected.

I had troubles with shipping companies back in 2021. When bought my F350 in St Cloud Florida and needed it shipped to Nevada.
The transporter quotes started at $1,200 they would agree then back out, they upped it to $1,500 backed out,
then $2,000 finally $2,500 and they still backed out after agreeing. I understood it was the end of covid.
Finally, I decided, I was the best one to deliver my own truck. Ended up I only had a week before, I had a trip planned Towing an RV up to West Yellowstone Montana.
Total cost was $1300 in 4 days.

My empirical observation is there are a lot of "fly by night" auto transport cowboys. They have some beat to &^%$ crappy old RAM or similar 3500 pickup truck, a flimsy fifth wheel transport trailer, and they pick up business from these sites you experienced similar to the way an Uber driver picks a ride or an Instacart shopper picks a shopping job. Many of them are from ahem, "Eastern European" and even further east countries, they barely speak English. I see them on the road all the time, and they really do drive like cowboys.

I would not trust them at all...

We sold a Ford Edge to my sister in law and she used one of those sights to bring the car from NC to WA. We had the tracking enabled on the Edge, and it took a very long roundabout way over 10 days to get across the country, as Yuri was simply dropping off and picking up cars as he worked his way west. I think he may have even left the car in one place for a bit as it didn't move for days. Totally shady operations.

I’ve been burned the same way in the past when looking to ship my car cross-country. Gave my info out to one of those online quote forms and then got flooded with non-stop calls and sketchy emails, it was honestly really annoying. Now I just look for companies with solid reputations or ask for recommendations from dealerships. Usually you get better service that way and much less hassle. If you want a safer route, I had a good experience checking info and getting a proper quote from A-1AutoTransport without the spam. They’ve been around forever and I liked how straightforward the whole process was.
