So can someone tell me definitively, does the dealer or sales manager know when an order is going to be pulled for scheduled build? I can’t believe a dealer doesn’t have any idea how long your wait may be once you place an order. What’s the real story?

The dealer or sales manager does not know when an order is going to be "pulled" or assigned a production week or day.

The only control the dealer or sales manager has in the selection process is assigning a priority code between 10 and 19. Lower is better. This only impacts orders within their own dealership.

So, if a dealer or sales manager wants to influence which of their orders are prioritized over others within the same dealership, that is the way to do it. This ability to assign a priority code has no impact on them knowing when an order is going to be "pulled" or assigned a production week or day though. All it means is that they have a better guess as to which of theirs will be selected first if one is selected at all. A 10 is going to be looked at before a 19. But if the 10 has heavily constrained items on it, and the 19 does not, the 19 may be picked before the 10. All the codes mean is the order in which Ford will "look" at the orders. They will check the 10's, then the 11's, then the 12's. They will keep checking higher and higher until they find an order they have the parts to build.

All this meaning to say that a smart dealer or sales manager may have an educated guess as to which of their orders might be picked "next", it is ultimately Ford corporate that decides.

They don't have any control other than how many allocations the dealer gets and that is based on past sale. They will know less than you because it is your truck, to them it is just another vehicle to sell. You can find way more information from this site then they will know. I had to explain to my dealer in 2021 that they had to do ROVP process then explain how, then they messed it up had to have them fix it and because how long it took my order didn't get picked and my truck was 16 months before I received. Just so happens might have been the best thing because it pushed my order to 2023 where some of the issues have been fixed I hope. So the only thing I was out was time and a sun roof on my XL order.
Good luck

The dealer's manager only sets internal priority. Once you are at the top of the line at the dealer, then it goes to Ford's regional district (whichever one your dealer is in), then you get in line with them to be selected for scheduling, then it goes through the lineup at the factory for production.

We got a VIN and build date of 6/12 for my wife's Lariat hybrid. It was in an email on 4/13. When I talked to my salesman that day after getting it, he said he looked at it a few days earlier and it stated Ford was "looking at it," but not sure what that meant. I honestly think, as above repliers have stated, that the local dealership knows very little more than the customer.

Orders will be previewed, or looked at by Ford on Tuesday. It doesn't always mean you will be scheduled that week but it is usually a good sign.

At what point do 2023 orders get bumped to a 2024 model? Advisable to order a 2024 Maverick if no build info by July? Thanks!

The 2024 order bank opening date it still a semi-secret (it has been published with fairly solid legitimacy, but not OFFICIALLY). But yes, if you did not have a production week assigned by the time the order banks opened (should be in July), I would definitely order a 24.

There have been numerous posts on this site about Ford stating unfulfilled MY23 orders WILL NOT be rolled over to MY24 orders.

Anyone that ordered a 23 and didn’t get theirs built will have to place a new order whenever the order banks open for 24 orders.

Also, not sure how large of a city you live in or how big your dealership is but if you’re considering placing a MY24 order, I’d be telling my salesman now so I’m on the list earlier.

I have a hybrid lariat on order and received an email around the same date. Mine said that they didn’t have the needed resources to build the truck. I have already removed the bed liner and box cover to expedite the order. I bought the exact truck from a dealer who had a buyer back out on them. I lost my Aplan discount however I don’t regret it. Interest rates are increasing weekly, there has been two price increases plus the current production issues. Doing the math regarding rolled over 2022 orders, the number of 2023 orders and the production capability I just don’t see the truck I ordered being built during the 2023 model year.
For what it’s worth I ordered the truck from the dealership that sells more vehicles than anyone else in the world. It makes no difference as far as allocation goes.

Glad you got one. I actually flew from Dallas area to Detroit area in early January and bought an XLT Hybrid for my wife from Dorian Ford. They were super great people to work with. When her Lariat gets built in June, I will sell the XLT, just like I did with my XLT before my Lariat was built. Love the Lariat hybrid. Just completed a trip of 550 miles, mostly highway, and averaged 44 mpg. Guess you guys are glad to see spring on the way.

Folks need to remember that Ford dealerships are independent agents. Not owned by Ford. They exist to sell you cars.
