What are people's thoughts on this camper trailer with a 4k Maverick? I know it's within the towing ratings, but I worry about it being a giant sail. It's something that I would likely have 4-6k a rear of travelling with on a mountain bike trips? I have also thought about the airstream basecaml 16 but I think this is better built and better vaule.

Weight wise it would be OK, but I think the frontal area of the trailer will exceed what Ford recommends. Me being on the cautious side, If I towed something with that much frontal area in a Maverick I'd limit it to 65mph to not strain the trans. Max frontal area with the 4K tow is 40 square feet. (About 6'X 6.5') Looks like about the size of that one.

The Airstream will be better built...but likely twice or more the cost.
Frontal area doesn't look excessive, but I don't know Fords recommended maximum on that without looking for it. You will still likely be over the combined weight rating for the Maverick if you have quite a bit of gear and passengers. That stuff adds up quickly.

Just looked this up. Maximum frontal area with 4K towing pkg. is 40 sq. ft. Maximum gcwr ( weight of maverick and trailer which includes passengers and gear in truck) is 8085 lbs. if you have the 4K tow package.
Figure an all wheel drive maverick with towing and options is going to be around 3800 lbs. Trailer will be close to the 3500 lb max gvwr ( if not over...which is all too common!). So that is 7300 lbs. You can have 700 lbs of passengers, bikes, and gear!

Agree with all above.....in the upper limit, but still should be very doable for a 4K Mav. As mentioned, watch your speed, and be extra vigilant with strong cross-winds. Didn't notice if it had brakes or not, but I'd make sure it does. Looks like a nice rig, post back if you get it!

GVWR Is the max weight the trailer can carry. The dry weight is well under. You will be fine a side from the TW which is pushing it a little but my TW on my set up is around the same so.. The frontal area is over but not by much problem is them SOL fronts are wind drags. Also it might not be an Airstream but them things are nice! I camped beside one last summer and couldnt believe the quality.

Just google "Maverick towing" and you'll see a ton of videos on the subject. This is from the Truck King, who does some nice Maverick videos.

That's way over the max frontal area. Stressing that little truck to the max.

Yes, that 3500 lb. GVWR rating for the trailer is correct. Which is somewhere around 700 lbs. of added weight allowed to get to the GVWR. So, add in a tv, all your cookware, dishes and glasses, bed and bath linens, stuff in the fridge, cleaning supplies.....and then there is water. Probably going to have 20-30 gallons of water/waste water at least so add 160-240 lbs of that. VERY common to go over the GVWR rating on RV's. Tongue weight can be dealt with by packing differently, but still is critical to safe towing. Not so sure the frontal area is a problem, Maverick blocks some of that. And you might be surprised at the drag coefficient on that rv, looks like they have put some work into that.

Dry weight is the weight of the Camper when shipped from the manufacturer, so if the tv is already in there then it is included. I'd think dishes and cups would be paper or plastic. Cookware, linens, cleaning supplies all together would most likely be under 50-75Lbs (stocking a one bed camper isnt stocking a 3 bed house) . I dont know many people that travel with full fridges but could be, say another 25lbs. I would not recommend anyone pull any camper with the Maverick with tanks not emptied. I pull my RPod 193 with everything stored beside the fridge and tanks and prolly pack the Maverick over what I should and have had zero issues traveling from the mountains to eastern shore and down to georgia. you just have to be aware of what you are doing and what everyone around you is. Watch for big rigs, if you let them fly past they will suck you in, watch for uneven highways as you will have sway, and brake early like really early.

If you get this camper, load up your truck and camper and find the nearest CAT certified scales and do a triple to see what you got going on. Guarantee you'll be under the recommended 8145 GCWR but may be close to the 80%. I'm like 94% when loaded down. Once I corrected my WDH and added the helper bags to rear I have no issues but I am very, very cautious. Safe travels.

Based on my homework so far I think that this will actually be better built than the airstream Basecamp unit. Many Basecamp owners are having problems with rotting floors from a shitty design of. The fridge installation. I can’t afford a new one, so I’ll have to buy used.. Airstream has left their customers holding the bag on this.

Looking at the tongue weight, isn't that an issue? Maybe I'm remembering incorrectly, but isn't the recommended max tongue weight for the Maverick 350 pounds? Maybe I'm thinking of the 2k setup?
